Need info on a Century Arms sporter rifle

I found a basically NOS (I guess) sporter today in 7.62X39 built by Century Arms on a 95 action. It was in a checkered wood stock and the bluing was worn on the barrel from being in the rack for so long. The store owner seemed very disappointed in it when I asked him about it, said he thought it was something different when he ordered it. I like the odd stuff so I was interested, I told him I wanted to do a little research on the rifle first.

saw one

I think I've seen/handled exactly ONE of those, but I'm not sure that Century was the importer or mfg. The one I handled was to heavy, and priced too high for what it was.

Can tell you that a bolt x39, like a Ruger MKII (SA) or maybe a CZ or Mini Mauser, is handy little rifle

The 7.62 X 39 is a very good deer killin' cartridge. My cousin's son lives in Michigan where they hunt from small blinds in the deep forest. He takes a decent buck and a doe or two each year with his SKS Russian carbine. Plain Winchester soft tip ammo gets the job done nicely.

Century Arms manufactured nothing except profits for it's owner(s) - they were US firearms importers.

I would wager the OP's wood-stocked rifle is very similar, if not identical or by the same maker, as the sporterized Kimber/Mauser 93/95/96 rifles, synthetically-stocked (Ramline), & also imported by KBI (Krassner)
