Need info on 22 single action

Hi I was wondering if anyone could provide me with info and perhaps value on a single action .22 .

on top of the barrel is stamped Great Western Arms
side of barrel 22 caliber
serial appears to be GW100xx

Gun is all blued except for the trigger which is plain steel. Barrel is 5.5". Handles appear to be white plastic with black accenting which I'm assuming to make it look like bone.

any help would be appriciated.

Great Western was a California company which set up to make single action revolvers in the 1950s before Colt resumed making the SAA and before Ruger came out with the Blackhawk. They made them in most common calibers of the day, but faded out because they could not compete with Colt and Ruger when they resumed/started making guns to cash in on the western movie and TV stimulated market.

Resale value depends strongly on condition and finding an interested buyer; probably in the middle hundreds of dollars.

Heard it said that Matt Dillon (the one in Gunsmoke, not the other one) carried a G.W.
 
Several of John Wayne's movie guns were also Great Westerns. There are several on permanent exhibit at the Cowboy Hall of Fame in the John Wayne exhibit area.
While pricing is a very regional thing, around my area (Midwest) the rimfire single actions only bring +/- $150-$250 whereas any centerfire single action can run several hundred dollars more.

It seems GW guns were during the Hay day of western movie making.

I'm curious if the serial could be traced to see if possably one of the old western stars used to own it???

None the less I appricate the info.

It is a nice SAA to plink with.
