LGS has a Colt Detective Special in nickle in pristine almost new condition
wants $900 too much! It is really really nice almost pulled the trigger on it but hesitating should I or not. Thanks Gus
I'm the first to admit Colt double action revolvers have taken a big jump in price since Colt quit making them, ,but I think your LGS may be a little out of touch with the market.
With the pricing on these revolvers over the past few years, almost any colt as you describe in my opinion under the $1,000 mark would warrant serious consideration.
If that DS is finished in electroless nickel, and not the glossy nickel, IMHO it's worth every penny - since the electroless nickel was only available for a DS on Special Order from the Colt Custom Shop.
FWIW, I had one NIB with box marked "Custom Shop" & papers, 30 years ago, that I sold for $650, then.
Electroless, as opposed to electrolytic, is simply a method of applying nickel plate to a firearm. Like any plating, electroless nickel reflects the metal finish under it. Shiny = shiny, blasted = blasted, etc.

Not really, you only stated "nickle" - why I asked.
That standard, gloss nickel finish, DS is might be overpriced to many; but when selling, how would one get the most out of whatever they're selling, unless they ask for top dollar ?
(It's a non-starter, for a seller to state a price, then try to negotiate it higher)
AND, whatever asking price leaves room for some negotiation ).
