Im looking to buy a handgun but not sure what to buy. I want something I can shoot alot without it braking but want it to be fun to shoot and concealable. My budget is 350 to 400. Any suggestions please.

350-400...Hmm I would say to stay with 9mm Nato caliber for lower ammo cost.

As to the actual gun. You would be looking at used mostly in the price point you mention, with the exception of Bersa and Taurus I believe. I havent had any recent experience with their products so I cant comment.

As far as used, I would say look for something like a S&W 5906, or a Beretta 92, an FM Hi-Power, Ruger P series, should also be some used Glock 17 and 19's around that price. You may be able to find a Rock Island 1911 in 9mm for that price very lightly used as well.

As far as surplus, you should be able to find several in 9x18 mak caliber, mostly of eastern european design. I havent checked want century arms, and southern ohio guns has in stock, but you may want to check there. steel case 9x18 is pretty cheap as well, though not common in some areas of the country.

Any idea on what type of handgun you would prefer or want? Your best bet for something concealable would be something from the surplus market or maybe a Bersa in that price range.

Hope that helps, give some more specifics and maybe some of us can help you narrow things down

I have a Ruger GP 100 6 inch stainless in .357 mag I am considering selling..It is a damn good shooter...And the 357 is a decent caliber...

You will probably get more responses if you get this moved to the General Handgun section.

I would agree to go with a used handgun from a good manufacturer rather then new from a lower tier manufacturer.

Police trade ins are also usually a good bet. They say low round count with a lot of holster wear. I have not bought one, but other guys swear by them..

Thanks. I have told keltec makes a good gun but they look like they would breakafter a few hundred round. I dont need it for home defense. Like I said I plan on going to the range alot and I want to ccw. Thanks for the offer of the 357 but want a semiauto.

If you shoot it a lot, it will cost you way more that "350 to 400"!

Do the math.

Well, if you can save a bit more $$$, like $500 - $550, you might be able to buy 2 guns instead of one.

For example:

1. Used Browning Buckmark or Ruger Mark I, II or III in .22 LR for LOTS of cheap practice and fun. Cost would be around $250.

2. New Ruger P95 in 9mm for $300-ish. 9mm is one of my favorite calibers, given it's effectiveness with quality JHP ammunition and affordable pricing. The P95 is a little bulky for carry for some, but a good solid gun belt and holster would make it very doable.

Sor for around $550 you could do 2.

go to a range where they rent out firearms get a feel for them. usually theres a instructor around. a actual instructor (not joe from down the street thats a self proclaimed expert), instructors are usually happy to answer questions because they know if your looking to conceal it youll probably be taking one of there courses. go from there. stick to calibers where the ammunition is plentiful. remember nothing is cheap these days no matter what you pick. prices keep going up they never go down.

Kel-Tec makes a good gun but it is not really made for recreational shooting. It is a small easy to hide S.D. pistol to be fired enough to be familiar and comfortable with as a carry gun. They are not going to last thousands of rounds like a good Colt, Smith, Sig, HK, ect. I carry the P-11 as a pocket gun often and I shoot it several times a year to stay comfortable with it but it is not a fun gun to shoot. Light pistol for the 9 m/m, it bites and beats fingers.
The 9 m/m is about the lest expensive centerfire ammo price wise but you can probably get a good revolver for less, I thing the suggestion of looking for police trade ins is a good one for the stated reasons. Good hunting.

As far as used guns and police trade-ins go, you might try CDNN, http://www.cdnninvestments.com. They have used Smith & Wesson 5906 and 6906 pistol;s at very reasonable prices as well as CZ 82's if 9mm Makarov is a possible consideration, as well as many others at fair prices. Once you get some idea what it is you want, I would also suggest you check out Gunbroker auctions at http://www.gunbroker.com and also Jet Guns at http://www.jetguns.com among others.
