i went to a store to buy a couple of shotguns for me and my son to shoot skeet and when i filled out the info on the form the guy made a phone call and came back in a couple of minutes and told me i was DELAYED and couldnt purchase them, he said to call back tuesday or wed. and check then i have never owned a gun in my life what is the deal??

If you have any items you may have dealt with in the past, could have followed you ie:
- bench warrants
- prosecutions
- outstanding traffic violations
- Domestic disturbance/abuse filings.

there is nothing you can do at this point but wait.

I have been told by SEVERAL dealers that first time buyers are automatically delayed. We have quite a few dealers on here that might comment when they see this post.

Don't worry about it, if you have a clean record the gun will be sold to you with no further problems. Being delayed isn't a big deal.

When you start buying guns too often then you get delayed again, but it still isn't a big deal.
 
I'll confirm about buying guns too often. I had never been delayed until I started a series of purchases, one every month or so. Now the NICS delays me everytime - and clears me every time.
