Need Help!

I just test fired my Mossberg 500, 12ga with pistol grip and heat shield.
I was using 00 Buck, Low Recoil, 2 3/4 inch shells. After firing 5 rounds, my hand that held the pistol grip was killing me.
Is there any cartridge I could use for home defense that won't take my hand off? :confused:
Should I have gotten the 20 guage instead? :o
 
no the 12 has a much wider range of ammo, and try using birdshot, but the largest shot you can get, or perhaps what alot of people will suggest is ditch the pistol grip and go to a straight stock, better yet if your really stuck on using the pistol grip start using standard target or field loads, practice with that until you really know how to handle a pistol gripped shotgun, then when ready go back to buckshot, but the only way your gonna see a difference with the buckshot is with a stock, pistol its gonna hurt with buck no matter what so either practice with birdshot until comfortable, or go to a regular stock, also you could get a speedfeed stock, where it has the pistol grip and a stock, best of both worlds???
