Need help with Winchester 94

I have a 1950 Winchester 94 .30-30. I stripped the action to clean it and when I put it back together I noticed that I moved the rifle back and forth I can hear the firing pin move forward and backward and the little button on the locking bolt assembly just freely pops out and in with movement. Shouldn't it have tension on it, when cocked staying all the way out?

Thanks!

The firing pin striker and the firing pin are free-floating, i.e., unsprung.

The total length of the striker + firing pin is greater than the available length between the rear face of the locking block and the front face of the bolt. This ensures that when a round is chambered the striker will protrude from the locking block, because the primer will hold the firing pin back. Also, before you ask, you can't close the action fast enough to cause a slam fire.
