i have a lady that wants to trade because of recoil so i would like to know what would be a fair amount to ask her as boot. she has a taurus 617 stainless that has been fired 10rds, the recoil was more than she liked so she offered it to me and asked how i would trade. i have this brand new never loaded or fired stoeger cougar 40 cal. with padded plastic case with cleaning brush and rod, holster, 6 magazines, 5 mag pouches, and 850rds of ammo. 260rds are federal and winchester hydra shok hollow points, the rest are brass cased fmj from federal, winchester and remington. so what would be a fair amount?, i have a little over $900 in all mine. thanks

The Taurus 617 is about $400-$450 gun, brand new. So, you can start from there.

That said, I don't think it is a good trade. Not for you money-wise and not for her gun-wise.

The Taurus 617 weighs in at approx 29 ounces. The Cougar weighs in at approx 32 ounces. I think the felt recoil would be less, firing .38 specials, from the Taurus 617 then the much snappier .40 S&W out of the Cougar. Since the 617 is a 357 Mag, it can fire 38 specials as well.. a lot of ammo options out there. I think she should give some different ammo a try, more then 10 rounds for sure, before she decides to get rid of the gun.
