Need help with Rockwell scale for gun hardness

Does anyone have an idea of what a shotgun and barrel hardness should be. I just got my two guns that burnt in a fire up and running. Springs function but need to be replaced. In what range should the SS receiver and blued barrels hardness be ? Have yet to get them to the shop to have them tested. Am really only familiar as to where a knife is in the Rockwell hardness scale. Cannot find any information as to where a guns hardness should be.

Riss,

Why not try the manufacturer? I know that Ruger were more than happy to answer questions about the actual series of steels they use in the manufacture of their Redhawk when I asked.

I checked them today the barrels came in at 30 and 35 and the Stainless receivers were 40 and 45 Rockwell C. I did not have time to take in good gun to test it. Have trouble trying to call Ruger with the long distance charges. Does anyone know of any manufacturers that post this type of information about their guns on the web ?
