Need help with AR15, carrier problem.

OK, long story short I ordered a M&P VTAC back on 11/29/08 and it just came in, I ordered a bunch of parts for it while I waited and installed everything yesterday. Im turning it into a compact midrange rifle.

Well everything went and installed as planned and ive built AR's in the past. But it came as a carbine and I installed a rifle length tube, buffer, spring and a PRS stock. Now when I pull the charging handle all the way back until it stops and the bolt is back the carriers hangs up a little bit in the buffer tube and If I release the charging handle to simulate chambering a round the carrier gets hung up alittle and is slow so release, it releases but its not smooth. All the pins and springs are in place inluding the buffer retaining pin.

Any ideas here guys, im stumped!

Forgot to add:

Ive never shot a 20" AR so I dont know if thats normal and Ive never shot this one yet, its brand new so its not broken in....

Well after fiddling with it, it seems its not really lagging. I think its the new rifle spring, it just needs to be broken in..

I think Im just used to charging a carbine and Im not used to the extra length spring I have to compress...:)

Do some diagnostics. Break open the rifle. Remove the buffer and buffer tube. See if the bolt carrier slides in and out without "catching." If it does "catch," it should be pretty easy to see why. If not, see if the buffer (without spring) goes in and out without catching. If not (since the buffer is smaller in OD than the ID of the tube, I wouldn't expect it!), install the buffer spring and buffer, then see if you can push the buffer to the end of the tube without a hitch.

Oops, I see the post you generated between your immediately previous post and this one. Oh, well...

Regards,

Walt
