Need help with 9mm

What's up guys

I'm currently reloading 115gr plated 9mm with hogdons universal clays.

Ok. So. All the data I've read says starting load at 4.0gr and 1.1 oal. The lee pro 1000 I'm using puts that at the #43 powder plate (or whatever you call it)

This combo works great on my cz scorpion, however, doesn't cycle the spent casing when I run it through my m&p. I tried the next size up powder plate but it puts the grain at 4.5 (which is the max for the 115 gr universal clay combo.

Some of my spent casings have the 'burn' on one side of the casing indicating a light load?

The same 4.0 gr and 1.1 oal worked perfectly with hs-6 powder but now I have 3 tubs of universal clays and can't get it right

Please help!

That is correct. The case is not sealing in the chamber fully.

Sounds like the recoil spring on the M&P is stiffer than the CZ.

Hogdgon's web site indicates a load of 4.5 to 5.0 grains of Universal with an OAL of 1.125 for 115 grain JHP. You are using plated bullets and may be a bit softer than the jacketed bullets so they produce less pressure. I would suggest going to 1/2 way between the min and max for jacketed bullets for the bullet you are using. 4.70 grains should correct your issues.

Make up some test rounds between 4.6 to 4.8 gains and test for the one that will cycle your M&P without any issures. As always check for over pressure signs with any new loads. Once you get the pistol to cycle properly then you can play with OAL's and you may find that the 1.125 OAL may even work better.

Good luck and stay safe.

Thanks for the input Jim!

I'll be testing some 4.5 -4.8 gr loads tomorrow. I didn't know that plated was softer than jacketed.

Much appreciated
