Need help w/ my 1911 A1

I detail stripped my Springfield Gummint Model for the first time in the 4 years I've owned it...I've stripped this model gun before, so no problem with the "knowledge thing..."

I can't get the plunger bak in the plunger tube!!!! I had carefully removed it by pushing it out with a toothpick, but now it won't return full way. I noticed that the little coil spring seems kinked. Will I need to replace the spring? Or is a "technique thing?"

Thanks for any advice, I'm puckering up here pretty bad...

The kink in the spring should be there to help keep the spring and plungers in place. If the plunger at the slide stop end does not want to go into it's tunnel, it could be that you have the unit swapped end for end. The slide stop plunger itip is of smaller diameter than the thumb safety plunger.

Take a deep breath and then visit us at 1911forum. :)

Jim V, thanks...actually I noticed a little step on the tunnel, and the small side has a shoulder on it so I figured the small part went forward. I guess I'll have to keep trying, the damn thing gets hung up.

Thanks again
