I just recently purchased a Remington 870 Express HD 18" bbl 12 GA. with 2 shot extension, and I would like to add a different forend on it. The problem I'm having is the darn thing does'nt want to come off. I guess the question I have is can the forend even be taken off of this model.

Do you want to remove the wood from the slide or the whole slide or both?

To remove the entire unit:

Unload gun.
Unload gun again.
Check to make sure gun is unloaded.
Remove extension or magazine cap.
Remove barrel.
Reach inside from underneath (moving the lifter up and out of the way) and push the shell latches into their channels so you can gentle pull the forearm and slide off of the gun.
Use the correct wrench to remove the nut from the slide-tube so you can pull the wood/plastic stock from the tube.
Sometimes it is easier to loosen the nut and pull the wood/plastic while the entire assembly is still on the gun. Be careful not to twist or otherwise bend the action arms!

+1 for advice above. It's probably the shell latches your having trouble with, if you dont squeeze them properly against the side then you can not remove the forend. Check the owners manual, it will tell you exactly how to properly disassemble the gun.

You will need a forend wrench I know Brownells carrys them, not sure where else. You need to remove the mag extension/cap, remove the barrel then use your wrench to unscrew the forend, or just take it to a gunsmith and have them do it if you do not want to buy the wrench.
