Need HELP selecting another handgun!

I hate these types of dilemmas. Basically, I need to keep my budget under around $350, so I am limited. What can you guys suggest in the new or used category. Current inventory includes:

- G17 (9mm)
- G23 (40 S&W)
- Sig Trailside (.22lr)
- S&W 638 (.38 Sp)
- S&W 686 (.357 Mag)

I am going to a gun show tomorrow and am thinking about the following:

- .45 (Do you think I should get a Ruger P97, or wait one day to get a good 1911.)
- .44 Mag (maybe a used one, but I am already a little recoil shy with my .357
- 9x18 Makarov, if I can find one at a decent price
- .357 Sig (basically, I would probably just buy a drop-in barrel for my G23 to convert it)
- .32 H&R Mag (I woulf love to get a Ti model from S&W IF I can find a used one)
- 9mm (I don't have a concealed carry gun in this caliber - what make would you suggest?)

Any and all comments are welcome and appreciated.

Wait and get a good 1911. It's not a question of "if" you'll ever buy a good 1911, it's a question of how many guns you'll buy before you get the good 1911. ;)

MP

I am always on a budget so I have a list of guns that are supposed to be good buys for the money. Here goes...

Makarov (any flavor) $160-175
FEG Hi-Power clone $199-240
Ruger P-series $299 up
Any used Ruger revolver...Security Six $200
Ruger .22 Target MKII new or used

I'm going to a gun show tomorrow too, but the ones in our area (Washington State) are always overpriced. My local shop actually had better prices. It's still fun to look though.

go with a good condition used Glock 17. the best thing to do is find a factoy reconditioned G17 that comes with 2 full-cap mags. they cost under $350.

russell,

As mentioned in my opening, I already have a G17, bought it new back in '94, and have several hi-cap mags for it. I would, however, not be opposed to a carry size 9mm, say a Kahr, or G26, if I can find a good used one.

rock_jock; You have come to the right place!! Seems to me you have almost all the bases covered. You don't need a 9 mill. You don't need a .22 fun gun. Youdon't need a magnum. There's a .45 cal in your future! Under $350.00? This is NO challenge! No 1911 is worth a damn at that price. There's only two at that price- Ruger P-90 or P-97. That's it, waalla, no more. :) :) Best Regards, J. Parker

I would not overlook the Rugers. Personally I think that they are butt ugly! But I have owned them for years and they are as realiable as a rock. Unfortunate looks but a great gun and the price is about right for your budget.

My friend looks like you alreay own some mighty good choice's. The old S&W J-frame's
are most fasinating. Probably, a gem mint
Smith & Weeson Model 60 in .38 Special
would be in good order?

PS: Let us know which one you choose!!! :)

Rock,
I tend to agree with MP Freeman. If you're gonna get a 1911, make danged sure it's a good one. I'm new to them myself but have shot a few and held some too. Some were so sloppy they made a diesel engine sound quiet. Rattled like crazy. Ruger is a good choice but again, like others here, I think they are uglier than my ex-mother in law. One .45 (everyone should own a .45) that feels good (in my hands anyway), is within your price range, was very reliable for me, and fairly accurate, was a E.A.A. Witness! I wish I had such a dilemna. I've also done what MP Freeman said too. Bought everything under the sun before finally getting a 1911.

New Ruger .45 in P90 or P97 trim.
Used Glock 19 (more concealable than your G17 and you can also use your G17 mags).

My .02 worth.
