Hey guys, here's the deal. The wife wants to shoot trap and such but complains that the Sweet Sixteen and 12 guage Rem 11-48 kick too much. She weighs a little under 100 pounds and wants something light and managable that will have less recoil than the above. I know, I know neither of the above have any real kick, but bear with me here. Oh yeah, the gun absolutly must be blued and have a wood stock.

Have her try a 20ga 1100 or 11-87. My personal pick would be a 20ga Benelli Montefeltro, but it's light weight makes it a better field gun than trap gun. I think Beretta make a 20ga 391 with wood furniture. -- Kernel

Take her to a good shop and have HER pick out her new shotgun. Get it fitting her and put on a top line pad like the Pachmyer Decellerator or the KickEez.Trust me on this, been married LOOonnnng time.

A 20 gauge gas gun would probably be the best approach. However, a light 12 ga gas gun may do the trick, including the almost mythical 1100 Special Field. These are LW, but hard to find.

Also, go with lighter loads, an oz, 2 3/4 dr in 12 ga, 7/8 oz in a 20.

If you can afford it, look at some Benelli 20ga semi-autos. Not only are they light, they are very pretty guns. If you want to spend less the Franchi 48AL in 20 ga is also a light, pretty and effective gun. Since the gun is for your wife it may be a good idea to go beyond utility to beauty too. Good luck.

I suggest a 12 gauge semi-automatic. If she gets a 20 gauge she has less chance of hitting the targets which can cause frustration.

The semi-auto absorbs some of the recoil.

I recently purchased a 11-87 Premier Upland Special 20 Ga for the Mrs. I was worried about the investment and then she doesn't take to busting clays...but luckily she busted the third clay we threw and she was hooked from there on out. The English stock and short barrel made it perfect. She liked the Fabarms O/U SuperLight too (?) but I figured it would really kick so I talked her into the 11-87.

A light semi 20 ga is just the ticket in most cases.
