Need help on pistol

I'm in the market for a new/used pistol. I'm torn between a used Colt Delta Elite 10mm w/40sw barrel and a new SIg P226 in 40sw with 9mm barrel. I want 40SW as I have dies to reload this round. Also any other pistol you might suggest. Had a Glock 22 was OK, just want to improve accuracy in IDPA, and better case support.
I have heard good things about both pistols. Looking for your input on durability, accuracy, hand fit (Big hands here), & finish.
Thanks in advance!

You can never go wrong with a Sig, although the 226 is hard to conceal. I really like the idea of converting from .40 to 9mm. Saves money and the 9mm is fun to shoot.

Howdy Rinoray,
The 1911 with barrel swap is a great pistol, especially for IDPA, but will give you no better chamber support. 1911 barrels are unsupported just like Glocks. The trigger would be better on the 1911 for your intended use. The 226 is an outstanding pistol. You will have the better chamber support, as it has a fully supported chamber. It is lighter than the steal framed 1911, but you will have to deal with the da/sa trigger, which may prove problematic in IDPA.
My chioce for your intended use is the Colt Delta Elite, plus I really like the 10mm round. Be careful if you pick up a used one. The Delta's have been know to crack frames, with the high pressure 10mm's. Colt never really beefed up the gun when it went from .45acp to 10mm.
Good luck. Just my $.02

Mr. "Big Hands"

I have fallen in love with my two month old P7M8. Now have a chrome P7M10 coming that is suppose to be NIB. This is a gun that is about the size of a full size 1911. It has a fixed barrel for superb accuracy and a great safety device. It requires "Big Hands". I love thick pens and guns for "Big Hands". As you probably know, the M10 never made it in the market because it lacked the compact cool look of the M8. The trigger is much like a SA trigger, once you squeeze the safety. Just sold a Sig Pro in .40. I don't like SA/DA triggers.

Rinoray,
I have a .40 Sig and I'm extremely happy with it. It shoots just as accurate as any other gun I've shot...It really makes the .40 caliber round look good! The grip is good for big hands, but go hold one (and shoot one) first. Durability and reliability are top (It's a sig). The new 226s are made with a one-piece stainless slide treated with nitron(black), so finish is great. It's very tough. The size makes recoil managable, but you can still conceal it if needed.

I like my Delta Elite a lot, and would not consider a SIG, or a Glock or anything else a replacement. Most die sets are sold as 10mm/.40, so you shouldn't need to consider using the lesser round. 10mm brass is certainly less plentiful, but a thousand cases should last a long time. As to frame cracking; if ten frames crack, and ten thousand people hear about it, is that 100,000 cracked frames? The cracks appeared in the slide rail above the slide stop window - where high-round-count G.I. 1911's crack, too - and have no effect on function. You could argue that all new Colt Government Models have a 1/4" "crack" in the frame rail.
