Need help on installing gun cabinet

I recently got on of those cheap locking 16 gauge gun cabinets at kmart. I know it is not near as good as a safe, but it should stop the average theif unless they want to spend some time on it. I bolted this thing to the wall quite well using about ten screws into the studs and floor in the back of my spare closet. The cabinet is black, and the closet doesn't have a light. With all the clothes in there it would be easy to open up the door, glance in there, and not even see it.

The question is that I am thinking about putting a keyed locking door handle on the closet door. Keep in mind that this in an internal door and wouldn't take much to kick down or remove the hinges. Do you think this locking door handle would be a good idea, causing a theif to take more time to get to the guns, or do you think it will just draw attention to the closet which might be overlooked in a quick burglary?

I think the locking door on the closet would help. As you said it is not a heavy duty door, but it is one more thing they have to break through to get your guns. But I do see your point on having the gun cabinet somewhat hidden being a plus as well.

What does everyone else think about this?

I think having a good lock on the door is a good idea...I'd be in a gun cabinet in about 30 seconds with just a screwdriver.

Matt brings up a good point...in lock knobs are really simple to defeat. I have friends who can get into my house in less than a minute, by picking the lock. This is the reason that I got a real safe. Try to lock the door with something that is difficult to pick...maybe something electronic? Otherwise, you could put two more (reinforced) hasps on the cabinet (one at the top of the door, one at the bottom) and that would help.
