Need help on deciding which HK.

Need help on deciding which HK. Why? Well, because I don’t have one yet.

Here are the items I am currently reviewing:
HK Mark 23 (.45)
HK USP9 (.9 or .45)

These are the only items I have found for (.9mm and .45). Let me know if there are other models for these calibers.

I am interested in getting input on which has the better reputation for quality and out of the box accuracy.

Thanks!

New or used?

If you're looking for newly manufactured pieces that are readily available in U.S., then add USPc (compact) 9 and 45 as well as the P7M8 (9x19mm). Expert is available in .40S&W and 45 in the U.S. Tactical 45 can be bought as well.

Do you prefer shooting 9mm or .45 ACP?

After you answer this question you will know which one to buy first. (You know you want one of each!):D

Already have a .9mm & .45 and love them both.

Would rather shoot the .45, but end up shooting the .9 as it cost about $70-$80 less a case.

I have three .45s and only one .9mm and need to balance the table which is why the .9mm has more of an edge.

In that case I would get the USP9F. I don't think HK's compacts are and I prefer the feel of the fullsize guns. (You can also get 15 round magazines for the USP9F.)

First, just a minor correction. It is 9 mm, not .9 mm, (i.e., no decimal point).

Now, the price difference and physical size between the Mark 23 and the regular USP is very big. Are you just collecting/shooting for fun at the range or will you be using it for some sort of duty. (Certainly, any gun can be use for duty but some are better suited for it than others.)

If you are going to used it for possible defensive work, IMO, you should go with a compact USP (for concealed use), a regular USP, or even an Expert or Tactical. If you are going the collecting route, then the SOCOM, again IMO, is a good choice, particularly if you're a beginner, moderate, or advanced HK collector like me (me being moderate).

You are looking at at least 1K difference between the prices of the USP and SOCOM pistol.

That would narrow my decision very quickly to the standard USP series or the Expert models.

All are quality weapons with great feautures. You just have to match up which weapon best suites your personal needs.

Good Shooting

Take a look at the HK P7 squeeze cocker 9mm pistols. They're priced about halfways between the Mark 23 and USP. Some say the P7 is the fastest gun around.

I'd suggest you take a look at the many pistol options at www.hkpro.com

Hope this helps.

Don't buy into the P7 hype unless you want to spend a grand or so, and you want a low-cap pistol that's a bear to clean. I'd recommend the USP9c or the USP .45F as best buys.

Get the one that fits you and your needs the most right now. Then, before you know it, everything on that list of yours will be in your safe. HK's are addicting ;) you can't have just one!

The Mark 23 is OK, but I only take mine to the range occasionally, it isn't a "fun"gun. The P7M8's go to the range every trip. The P7 is a must own gun!

I visited the local gun shop to inquire some more on the HKs and guess what..... There was a used (barely used) full size HK USP 9 for $525. I say "There was" because it is no longer there as I purchased it, took it home and will be trying it out next weekend.

Thanks to all for the input.
