Need help now with 1911!!!!

I had this also happen one time before with a Para Ordnance P13. I gave up after an hour or two and took my gunsmith a "bag o gun" because I just put the pieces in a ziploc so I wouldn't lose any parts. Sorry;(

Probly best to do what BerettaElite suggested and have him show you where you went wrong. He may not charge you but if he does it will be minimal. Chock it up as experience.

My advise is to not totally break down any firearm unless you have instructions on doing it properly. Re-assembling improperly can be dangerous to you and anyone around the weapon.

Thereare not a whole lot of ways it will go back together. If you essentially have all of the parts in the correct relationship it should work. From long distance it is difficult to diagnose. Is it possible that you have the sear and/or the sear spring in improperly. It is difficult to mess up once you have done it properly one time, but the parts are very durable so you probably wont break anything. Good Luck!!!

You have to be there when it's all over. Otherwise you can't say "I told you so."

Better days to be,

Pull the main spring housing back off, by drifting the pin in the bottom out, left to right. Bring the hammer back to full cock. Put the thumb safety on to the half on half off point and pull it straight out. Remove the grip safety. Raise the hammer strut up out of the way, so that you can see the sear and disconector. Take the sear spring and place it in the cut in the frame and place it against the sear and disconector. Gently slide the mainspring housing partway back onto the gun, so that it holds the sear spring in place. Put the grip safety back on and slide the thumb safety back into place. Push the mainspring housing back into place and put the pin in. Go slowly and do not force anything. Your gun should now work properly. Go to a gun show and buy yourself a good book, with lots of pictures on 1911's. That will teach you a lot. Good luck and good shooting. Be safe...

If this doesn't do it, then send me an E mail at KZ1000LTD@aol.com and I will see if I can help you further if needed. Let me know if your 1911 has the firing pin block such as Series 80 Colts and Paraordnance guns have.

You probably put the sear spring back in wrong. Sounds like 7th Fleet knows what he's talking about. Check out www.m1911.org to see a picture by picture breakdown of the gun. I did the exact same thing, relax, watch some T.V., drink a beer, approach the problem fresh and not all wound up. Once you get it you'll never forget.

Thanks guys
I got it guys what I did wrong was I forgot to cock the hammer then put in the safty. I tried putting in the safty without cocking back the hammer first. I scared myself for a second, but it working fine now. I do have a book but they only show you how to take it apart then say just go backward and the gun will be back together. 1911org helped alot. Now to see if it shoots this week! :)

Now I know and knowing is half the battle!
thanks again, Cyric
