I recently purchased a NIB Charles Daly & a used norinco. I went to the range Sat with both of these guns for the first time. I fired 100 rds of ball ammo thru each using Colt Mec gar & shooting star mags. here are my results and my problems. the Daly worked great for the first 40 rds with a jam on the last rd out of the colt mag. the next 60 rds the gun had failure toreturn to battery on 6 occasions coming up short 1/8 to 1/4 of inch short. My question is could this be do to the fact that after cleaning the gun over 6 weeks ago I have not put any kind of lubricant on the slide rails or is this a greater prob. Other than that all 100 rds were in the 6" black circle at 15 yds. A first for me with a semi auto pistol. The two men next to me firing a 9mm berreta and a browning .22 semi auto target were envious and surprise that this was my first time with a .45 and ask to fire the pistol. Now for the norinco. It also fed everything with the only jams coming with the last rd from the colt mag. My problem with it is the ejection, about half of them came straight back and bounced off of my head. i need to know what to do about this, and I would like to replace the sear hammer and trigger with Chip McCormick parts and the gri[p safety with poss. wilson. Any comments good or bad are welcome. This is my first post on any boards so dont rag me too much. Thank you all.

on the norinco it sounds like your extractor needs adjusting ,i`d carry it too a good smith,it should not cost too much one other thing it could be id the recoil spring being way too light ,but if it is a new gun id say that should not be it ,the CD pistol id clean it up and put a couple more rounds through it and see if that is it and make sure you lube this time !the only other thing i`d recommend is getting the wison mags they are great ,one place i know that has them for 26$ is dillon precision !

Has instrutions for adjusting the extractor. It's really pretty easy.
For the feed problems, check your breechface. I have a 1911 that did the same thing, opening and polishing the breechface corrected the problem.

Depending on how new your Charles Daly is (the later the better)Early CDs had a terrible breechface which be smoothed out with some crocus cloth cented to a popsicle stick. Even the new ones can stand some polishing.

Every CD I have seen has a clocking extractor caused by a floppy firing pin stop. I personally replace the extractor with an EGW piece and lock in in by fitting an EGW oversize firing pin stop. Use the tuning instructions mentioned above.

The recoil spring on all CDs is weak, replace it with a Wolff 18.5 lb spring if you will be shooting 230 gr round nose or any standard load.

The trigger is a source of irritation (literally, as it bites you finger) and can be replaced Drop-in by a McCormick trigger.

There are some other things to be done the the CD, but these will get you started. They go bang every time you pull the trigger.

My personal recommendation ...if parts replacing is in your agenda, would be to concentrate on the Morinco. It is a good base for building a good gun.
