Need help locating Texas hunt

My six year old daughter started hunting with me this year. Unfortunately, we did not have a deer within her confidence range on the days she could go with me. (She did kill a lot of paper with .22, 22 Hornet, etc.)

I would like to keep her interested by taking her to Texas for hog/javalina. We live near Shreveport on I-20 in NW Louisiana. If any of you know of any reasonably priced hunts that would not mind one gun for dad/daughter hunt, I would appreciate it if you would drop me a line. She might even try a turkey since its getting that time as well.

Her older sister still hunts. In my opinion, year round activities and keeping it fun are the key to "hooking" young ones.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Too bad yer after a gun hunt... I have several friends and acquaintances from oklahoma and louisiana as well as texas that hog hunt but with dogs, some "toss and tie" while others stick the dog captured hog with knife or spear...
Good luck to your gal getting one!

There are a ton of places to hunt hogs/javies in Tx. Lots of different pricing, also. I haven't hunted with these people, but take a look, cause the have an adult/child hunt listed in their pricing.

We hunted with the following in 2006. You might give Chris a call and see if he would cut you some kind of deal on your daughter hunting with you. We killed 6 hogs and 2 javies in 3 days of hunting.

Four seasons hunting in Nixon Texas with Dan Moody would be a good bet on hogs or Douglas Mason of Texas Mason Catahoulas.
The javalina will be a little farther west, try Steve and Darrell York of Yorks Real hunting around FT. Davis, very reasonable rates and great service.

Mr.Mason is a high caliber man... he is one high class individual. I hear he played pro ball for the cowboys "back in the day" before they were so heavily paid and padded...;)

Here's my deal on this, hogs can be mean, they can be vicious, and more than a few guys have ended up getting chewed on by hogs.

Are you really sure your 6 year old daughter is ready for this?

Frankly, wouldn't she be better off shooting mice and squirrels at that age than being pushed into really hard hunting.....Last time I was hog hunting I was dead tired by the end of the day, walking miles and miles of river bottom and ravines looking for them, thats a lot to ask of a six year old.

sometimes in life there always was a reason waiting till you were old enough.

Lots of TX hog hunting is sitting in a blind over a deer feeder. And lots of places won't even allow "spot and stalk" because they've got so many guns on their land - all paying $1000 for a weekend of course.

It's a pretty good haul from Shreveport to javelina country. Generalizing, you're looking to the Uvalde area and westward.

Javalina are plentiful in the South Central part of Texas toward Laredo from San Antonio. Lots of hog hunting in nice cozy safe deer blinds over corn feeders in the Texas hill country just west of San Antonio. I would check craigslist in those areas for day hunts.

Try craigslist. Go to the Dallas listings, then Sporting. Search for "hog hunt", "hawg hunt", "pig hunt", and maybe just "hunt". You will probably find plenty of listings. I haven't checked recently but a year or two ago it was typical to see two hunters, two days, $200, with a no-kill no-pay policy.

You might check the Houston craigslist as well.
