Need help loading 300 blackout blanks

I know this may sound juvenile but I recently bought a golf ball launcher to thread onto my h and r handirifle in 300 AAC blackout. I've tried to load blanks using styrofoam plugs sealed with candlewax and the golf ball went about 5 feet. Ive tried 4 different powders and many different amounts of each. I would prefer to use AA1680 or H4198 if possible based on the current quantity that i have. I'm not new to reloading, only new to reloading blanks. Any help you could offer would be appreciated.

First off... That sounds like WAY too much fun.

Second...556 blanks are crimped to allow the powder to ignite properly in the case before the charge gets thrown down the barrel by the force of the primer.

Im guessing that in the preceding attempts you ended up with a bunch of unburned powder in the bore.

Im not sure how to duplicate the 556 blank crimp on a 300blk case.

maybe.....run into a 5.7 die, if you have one, or 22tcm, just the mouth, then just crimp it the rest of the way with a vice.

I did have a bunch of powder that was not burned. Maybe a better question is then how do I go about crimping a 300 blackout case? I have not found any star crimp dies for 300 blk nor do I want to spend any decent amount of money on one...after all...I'm launching golf balls, it's not exactly serious business :)

I'm no expert, so take it FWIW.

Just doing some reading on the subject it seems you are on the right track using a plug. However, the powder is all wrong. Rifle powders burn much too slowly and are designed to do so behind an 'obstruction' such as a bullet, building up pressure.

It seems to me you want to use a pistol powder of some sort, that will burn completely before it has much of a chance to leave the case. I have sucessfully used pistol powders under a 155gr bullet in my x39 rifle to launch them at 1100fps. Mind you these are greatly reduced levels, nowhere near the rifle powder charge.

Do you have any pistol powders on hand? Like something with a burn rate similar to W231? I would still try to stay with the plug idea just use a faster powder before crimping the cases.

I would try something faster. There's not enough pressure to burn the powders you're using. I think 700x, bullseye or Red Dot would be better and plug them with a cork disk sealed with wax.

"...may sound juvenile..." Certainly is. That's what makes being a big kid so much fun. snicker.
You need a very fast burning powder for blanks. AA1680 or H4198 may be too slow. However, just the wax is enough. That's what the quick draw guys use.
A single shot rifle doesn't care about feeding. That's all a blank crimping die will do. And you don't use a standard length case for that.
