I recently purchased a Taurus hammerless 8 shot .357 mag DAO. I am new to the wheel gun world, so excuse the ignorance. Sometimes when shooting, I pull the trigger and it wont move at all so in short it doesn’t advance to the next round. I have to pull on the trigger a little and reach up to advance the wheel myself, (just slightly moving it to the left does the trick) then it does just fine until the next time it happens which is on average 3-4 out of eight shots. WHAT GIVES!! If anyone has any info on this problem or has had the same thing, happen I would appreciate your insight. The gun is brand new and has had 200 rounds through it at most. I got it mostly for home defense because I have been told that Revolvers are the most reliable things to have next to your bed in the case of something going bump in the night. I am now questioning that advice

PS it is clean and has done it from day one.

Ship it back to Taurus for repair under warranty. Go to the Taurus website and fill out a prelog form, follow the shipping instructions, it must go overnite by FEDEX,UPS not USPS. That way it will get repaired.

Before I ship it back to the factory have a little talk with the dealer you bought it from. Since it is brand new then have him address the problem. A lot of shops have gunsmiths or access to them and it may be a simple fix or it may have to go back to the factory, but either way you shouldn't have to pay for anything.

Sounds like a simple timing issue. I'd caution against letting a store 'smith do anything to the gun because that voids the warranty.

A couple of things. What model Taurus are you using? A .357, 8 shot, wheel gun DOA...The only model I'm aware of that is 8 shots is the 608 model and it's not DOA.

When you move the cylinder to the left do you push the cylinder from right to left? Or, do you rotate the cylinder up from the right side.

Lastly, I'd say you are a very patient person to put 200 rounds through a wheelgun that malfunctions every 3 to 4 rounds. :(

So, can you give us more information....

Many thanks...

DEFECTIVE. Taurus needs to recall everything made in the last 6 months. I would retun it to the dealer and ask him for either my money back or a replacement or have him return it to Taurus at no expense to you. If he or anyone other than Taurus touches it, warranty is void. Ship it and then dump it at a loss. Sorry, best advice I have.

Im not a taurus fan or a hater either but this thread seems fishy, His model firearm doesnt seem to exist per one users post and this is also his very first post.hmmm

i have never owned a taurus that did not have a problem. however, once they were fixed they turned out to be the most accurate and smoothest revolvers i own. its clear taurus focuses on diversity in there product line rather than quality control. to me that equals qaunity/quality

I may be wrong, but I do too!

Hey William. What's the basis of your beef with Taurus? Besides your opinion, do you have any facts to justify a recall of all Taurus guns?

My experience is, Taurus makes a quality product. I own, and have owned a Taurus PT-92, that I still trust to nightime HD, a Mil-Pro 9SS, a .357 Taurus Tracker, a Taurus 85 Ultra-Light .38Spl. +p, and a Taurus 905B. I find the PT-92 to be one of the most accurate auto's right out of the box I own. The quality of their wheelguns is excellent.

Ever shoot a Tracker .357 or .44 Mag ??? :D

Since we shifted into Taurus quality control, I will tell my tale of woe. I bought a PT-145 in 2003. Back of the plastic frame broke off. Shipped back to Taurus and was returned several weeks later. Next spring I took it to the range and at 100 rounds of Winchester 230gr ball, the gun blew apart. The area above the trigger and dust cover came off and my fingers were torn by plastic and metal. I shipped the gun back with a letter from my attorney. Taurus after three months of playing cat and mouse sent back a new PT-145PRO to replace the first gun. I sold the POS gun at a loss and never looked back. My advice is to have Taurus repair it and sell it. Do not let gunstore smiths work on it as this voids the warranty. When I talked to Wilsons on the phone years ago, their guy told me 90% of their work comes from kitchen table, gun store, and home study course gun smiths. I hope this info helps you.

Wasn't that PT-145 in their Millenium Series? Those problems were fixed in the Millenium Pro Series, and remains the only black mark on their product quality.

Sorry you took a loss. I've taken losses on several purchases due to poor workmanship over the years, and the manufacturer was Taurus... :(

As has already been mentioned the only 8-shot .357 from Taurus is the model 608. They don't manufacture it in a DAO variant. Therefore it is either not new and has been modified to be DAO, or you mis-typed and meant it's a DA revolver, meaning DA/SA with a hammer.

In any case you've been given the correct advice: start with your dealer. If he won't replace it, don't any smith work on it until/unless you first contact Taurus and ask them about it. If someone has made changes that void the warranty then I would ask the dealer to have it fixed.

I own 3 Taurus revolvers and the only problem I've had was the yoke screw working it's way loose on my 617. That is not a problem unique to Taurus revolvers.

Bullrock

Yes it was part of the Millenium series but like a fool I ignored all the posts on the PT series(380,9mm,40sw,45acp) coming apart. I have a M-85 and M-94 which are great but Taurus should have recalled the PT series guns. My reason for selling the replacement gun was I lost faith in the design. A man without faith is doomed and with no faith in your weapon you wind up in a body bag. I plan on buying one of the tracker series soon as I still like their revolvers.

Bullrock, I like my Taurus revolvers in steel. M85, M44 and M66. Lately and I can say within the last 6 months, Taurus across the board has gone deep into the black hole of quality. I have seen some totally nonfunctional NIB. One that I saw was a M85 that could be freewheeled while cocked. A couple of dysfunctional 905s and a CIA that was locked up tight/frozen action NIB. Decockers falling off and failure to reset triggers in their semi-autos seem to be common complaints. I have heard others with similar tales of woe lately. I don't know what is going on at Taurus. I usually think they are a great firearm and a good value. I have been wanting four or five Taurus firearms lately. Their 1911, a pair of Gauchos, a Thunderbolt pump rifle and their 905. I have seen and heard enough problems to keep me from buying until Taurus straightens out whatever is wrong.

yep i have 3 tauruses and have to say after buying the 3rd im done with them. ive been trying to dump off mt pt140 but it looks like im going to have to take a pretty hefty loss. i also have a m85 and have had the same timing/lock up problems your experiencing.

WOW
I guess I’m the skunk here today, cuz boy did I cause a stink!! First of all PEZO and BULLROCK, did someone forget to take their Lithium for their schizophrenia today. Or are you guy’s partners for the CIA or FBI or something like that. Either that or you’ve both been done way wrong by somebody and in that case please except my humble apology for not writing a book about my life before posting. ;) Also, why the hell would I waste my valuable time asking for help on a gun forum for a subject that was “FISHY”? Ok now that I got that off my chest I will try to explain, so you all understand. First off thank you for your advise, those of you who were not to paranoid to think there was some underline “fishy” reason for me posting. I hope with this post I will earn a little trust. As I said in my first post and maybe I need to make it clearer I am literally retarded when it comes to revolvers :( and still green as far as handguns all together hence “DAO” let me explain I thought DAO meant double action only in my mind, (green) mind you DAO means you pull the trigger and that pull has a dual purpose, first to cock or advance the firearm and second to fire the firearm in one stroke or pull of the trigger I WAS WRONG. But after I did some serious searching (for two or so hours) I found a sight that explains Single-Action A type of firearm that may be discharged solely by manually cocking the weapon and then pulling the trigger. This term is commonly (but incorrectly) used to indicate the operation of a weapon using this mode. Double-Action A type of firearm that may be discharged either by manually cocking the weapon and then pulling the trigger or by using trigger action to both cock and fire the weapon. This term is commonly (although incorrectly) used to indicate the operation of a weapon using the trigger-cocking mode, or to describe a firearm capable of being operated in the trigger-cocking mode. This info was taken from (A Glossary of terms Relating to Firearms, Their Use, and Possession for the Hoplophobe, the Non-shooter, or Individuals Employed by the Media © Copyright 1998 Excalibur Press) so now I still do not know what action my revolver is called. But another thing I did find out was that I used another term wrong "Hammerless" Sorry to have confused you guys it is a concealed hammer not a hammerless revolver. The salesman who sold it to me called it hammerless so that is what I called it (my apologies) this pistol does exist though I called Taurus and found it had been discontinued so Sportsman’s warehouse must have had it on the shelf for some time before I purchased it. But it is an 8 shot .357 model 941CH. Makes sense, and finally I am sorry for the long thread and all of the misunderstanding but your info was helpful. I didn’t want to have to send it in but it looks as if I will have too. Again I am sorry for al the sh!%. Thanx all. :D
