Need help in deciding on new toy.

Well its been a while since I have had the extra funds to buy a new toy. About 9 mos ago i traded a used GSG 5pk 22lr for a nib S&W sigma 9 mm. I got 2 extra clips by mail in rebate for the sigma also. Yesterday I sold the sigma for $400 at a garage sale we had. Well im now looking for something to replace it spot. The basics: it needs to be a caliber I already own (9mm, 45 lc, 45 acp, 38/357, 223 or 7.62x39), doesnt have to serve any special purpose ie (range, ccw or home defense), must be in $400 range so preferably used. It can be either a pistol or longgun. I own several other pistols, rifles and shotguns. Lets hear some ideas...

I have looked at some and I'm not opposed to a 22 as I do have a stash of 22lr ammo from when I had my GSG. The charger archangel model did look pretty fun but more than I would want to spend on a 22(assuming the 450 price tag on gunbroker is accurate.)

Guns are not toys. Referring to them as such is puerile, and to me indicates a lack of comprehension as to their inherent danger.

I can't help but comment on this ridiculous statement. BS!!!
Big boy toys come in all forms, and referring to them as such has nothing to do with ones proper respect to their safe operation. Inherent danger sounds like some anti gun talking point. I have a lot of "toys" that can be dangerous if not operated in a correct manor. ATVs, motorcycles, bass boats, fast cars are all "big boy toys", and can all be dangerous if not operated properly, but inherently dangerous I think not!

Now to the OP's question. I know you didn't mention 12ga as one of the currently owned firearms, but a Tactical shotgun would be a good addition. I think I am adding one to my "TOY" wish list.

A Companion Magnum ...

Went to the gun show today and saw all kinds of great revolvers there. So … why not get another 38/357 with either a longer or shorter barrel than you already have? Think of it as a companion magnum. :)

Or how about a nice Sig .45 in a larger or shorter configuration than you now have! Man those are sweet .45’s. If they are anything like my Sig – it’ll go bang every time! I almost want one now ...

I also handled a few .22 Mag revolvers at the show (odd how many there were really – I don’t normally notice them I guess). They seem like they might be a lot fun – and their triggers weren’t “as bad” as everyone claims. But that’s not a caliber you already have.

This may be a little different than what most people would suggest, but if I had about 400 dollars to spend, I would go with a Saiga 7.62 X 39, it also comes in .223, or .308 (a little more pricey). The actual gun at a good local dealer or on gun broker can be purchased for about 325 dollars. I purchased one from a local dealer for about 330 a year ago, and modified it by putting on a Tapco T6 collapsible stock for only 60 more. Since then I have added an aluminum quad raid forend, a vertical grip, and a laser. Since all Saiga's are AK platform, they shoot flawlessly, and have 30 + round magazines available. I enjoyed mine so much that I went out and bought its cousin, the Saiga 12 semi auto 12ga (which has 20 round drums available for it :). But this is just my opinion.

A new "Toy" huh?,,,

There is one handgun that starts an addiction,,,
If you don't own one your collection is incomplete.

Any 4" K-frame S&W in .38 Special:
Model 10 is the classic,,,
Model 12 is the classic in Airweight,,,
Model 14 Masterpiece is 6" target perfection,,,
Model 15 Combat Masterpiece is excellence in blued steel.

Not really a high-tech range toy,,,
But outstanding performance proven by time.

.

Well I currently own several handguns. Including a springfield1911, sig p226 navy, glocks, xd sub, beretta stampede and Rossi snub nose. I am partial to handguns but do love my sks, ak and ar15. Around here the sks, ak and ar will give you sticker shock. Non matching sks priced around 379. Ak ranging from 700 and up. And ar hard to find under a grand. I do have a maverick 12 gauge so another shotgun is not really needed. School me on some older war model handguns under 400 such as makarovs etc.

comments like this belong on the high road, where everyone is so serious and self righteous.

Guns ARE toys for some people - and these people are typically very responsible when it comes to gun safety. Fast cars are also very dangerous, but we don't jump all over people for calling them "toys"

Hello SpaceCoast,,,

Man, I just don't share your attraction for stainless steel,,,
But it's all good my friend,,,
It's all good. :D

The real problem is,,,
I can never remember the models,,,
Of the stainless equivalents of the 10, 15, & 19.

My friend though,,,
He is just like you are,,,
He just loves the stainless guns.

His range box has a Model 629 in .44 Mag,,,
And the Model 66 Combat Magnum in .357 Mag,,,
And the Model 67 Combat Masterpiece in .38 Special,,,
And last but not least (my favorite) the Model 63 in .22 LR.

(I had to google the model numbers)

When he opens that wooden case at the range,,,
The glow off of all that shiny metal,,,
Is practically blinding.

Adults use toys and play to form and strengthen social bonds, teach, remember and reinforce lessons from their youth, discover their identity, exercise their minds and bodies, explore relationships, practice skills, and decorate their living spaces.

That is from wikipedia. And since I don't rely on my firearms for food and although they are used for protection and have never had to use one in that instance they are basically for recreation and become TOYS. I am very responsible with my guns and know where they are at all times. Know which are loaded. Never point in an unsafe direction and my finger never enters the guard unless ready to fire. Guns are not dangerous. Irresponsible people with guns are. But back to the point.

What military pistols might I find in that price range that are worth owning.

Military pistols:

What military pistols might I find in that price range that are worth owning.

Is a CZ-75B considered a Military pistol?

New they start at $498.00,,,
I have seen them used for as little as $300.00.

Very solid pistol,,,
Extremely accurate,,,
All steel so kinda heavy.

I love mine,,,

Teuthis, your comment leads me to believe you have a stick up your butt. If you remove it, you will be more comfortable playing with whatever you play with.

Not many shops around here carry th cz brand. And when you have them order or do a transfer they want a transfer fee plus a percentage of the sale price of the gun. I was mainly referring to older military sidearms. Tokarev, makorev, etc. I know the 9x18 is a different caliber but could handle that with the lower price of the guns. What should I look for if I choose one. Also what is the story on the waltzer p1.

OP, not knowing what you have I will make a few recommendations that may be well off from what you are looking for.

Everyone should have list:
1911, it is just a must for firearms collectors.

Glock, They come in many sizes. Some people love them. Some people hate them. I am on the love side. If you shoot them and hate them, you still have to love the engineering.

Luger, I don't have one, but I have shot one. Again, this is a range toy with great engineering.

A single action pistol. It is just different. It is a heritage item. Again, it is on my want list.

Some would say get a BHP. I have not fallen in love with the BHP.

You need a VERY accurate target pistol and rifle. Preferably these would be in 22LR. You will never know how good you are until you have a gun that is dead nuts accurate.

Groups.
Since you mentioned 45LC. I would suggest a companion item. Rifle or pistol. So you have a Rifle and Pistol in the same cartridge. You could do this with your 9mm or 45ACP also.

Other thoughts:
2 is 1
Stuff breaks.
If you have a gun your love and would trust your life to, get another, because there will be a day when that gun will have an issue and you will want another one NOW. When that happens, you will have your second gun.
