Need help ID'ing a bolt action Italian rifle

Have a friend that needs help ID'ing an Italian bolt-action. Looks like a Carcano non-carbine 6.5mm, but has 5.5 stamped on it. It also has Terni stamped on the receiver as well as 'Made Italy', not Made in Italy. Here is a quote from an email I got from them. The bore appears to be around .25cal or .223 (5.56mm).

'I looked closer and it still looks like a 5.5 cal. Luray, found an egg shaped circle with what looks like ss in it.
She also found a circle with 2 stars connecting to each other from bottom to top. The picture I got from one of the addresses was close but the bolt action was set up different.'

I wonder if it could be one of the so-called "Youth Carbines" that were made as training rifles for Italian youth groups in the Mussolini era (sort of like the Hitler Youth). I think they were made to take a blank only, but I will do a little more checking to see if any were made in .22 Long Rifle like the German trainers. Is the bolt and chamber for a center fire or a rimfire round?

Jim

I have one of the trainers and it has a fully rifled bore around .25-.27 caliber. A .30 carbine case will chamber. I have never chamber cast it as I was never going to shoot it. It is tiny.
