Need Help Identifying Savage Rifle

I inherited a Savage Arms rifle. This rifle has been sitting in a shed for several years. As a result, the rifle looks rough and is missing some parts. I can not read the model information on the barrel and need help identifying the rifle. It looks like the model number is three digits and the last is a 0. After the model number it says series E. The rifle is bolt action and chambered in 22 hornet. I do not have any pictures at this time but am trying to get some (most cell phone cameras take better pictures than my digital camera). Are there any identifying features I should be looking for? Any ideas of what the rifle is? Where could I find pictures to compare to?

It does look very similar to the model 340. I looked on Numrich and found the model 340 Series E and a model 840 Series E. What is the difference between the 340 and 840?
