Need Help Identifying A Smith

A buddy of mine recently traded into a S&W and we were both wondering what it is. He was told it was a "Lew Horton" by the guy who traded it to him. It is a stainless .44 mag with a 3" barrel, round butt, with wood grips (w/finger grooves). The barrel is not ported. The trigger pull has obviously had some work because it is very light and DA is buttery smooth. It does not say Lew Horton anywhere on the pistol. Here are the numbers we found in various places: (we have no idea which one is the serial number)

ANA9467
M629-1
77216
B19

Any help with identification would be appreciated. I'd just like to know when it was made, what it is exactly, and about how much it's worth.

Thanks!

The book I have says, the M629-1 started in 1982 with the elimination of the cylinder counterbore and pin barrel. They manufactured 8000 M629-1's in 1986-87 "with round butt and 3" barrel. distributed by Lew Horton and S&W." Sound familiar?! :)

ANA9467 is the serial number, which seems to point to a late '86 manufacturing date. :)

You can go to the S&W site and down load a form. Fill it out and send it in with $30.00. They will research your revolver and send you back an official letter certifying your revolver.

Your revolver sounds like a Lew Horton, I have one 1985, blued 3" barrel.
