Need help identifying a rifle

Bought this from a friend who needed some quick cash. This is a percussion cap rifle with brass inlay in the stock and the initials S.C.C. in the left side of the stock. The receiver plate below the action says " J & H Meachum & Co., Warranted". It is an octogon barrel and is actually in good shape. Trying to figure out what this is and its value (seeing if it was worth the cash or if I just helped out a friend) When I try to search for Meachum, the only thing that comes up is E. C. Meachum from St. Louis.

Any help would be appreciated.

^^ Um thats pics of two different rifles. You might want to move this post down to the black powder forum. I can't tell you what you have. But there are folk that hang out in there that most definitely can.

Yes, looks like a Gewehr 1871 Mauser, should say so on the left side of the receiver.

The bottom one looks like apercussion rifle with recent stock. Looks like an older lock and barrel. Of course, the picture is not of the whole rifle. Very poor inletting around the lock.

My mistake

Thanks for pointing out the picture error. Thats what I get for trying to do this in a hurry instead of waiting until I had more time. I am re-posting this in the black powder forum as suggested with additional pictures of the right rifle this time Thanks!
