Hello All,
I have a Hi Standard Model E left to me from my uncle...The serial is 95300 ..
I am not a gun person and have very little knowledge about guns.
What I found out was that the first Model E was shipped out to the War department in March 1942 from this article (Hi Standard guns of WW11 )about Carl Gustave Swebilius the founder of High Standard.
It says...
"In 1942, the War Department purchased Model Bs in mass quantity with deliveries beginning in May and June. Every model Swebilius had in inventory regardless of model or barrel length went to the military. ]The first pistol, a Model E serial number 95215, was shipped on March 10, 1942. Model B, Model A, Model D, Model E, Model H-B, Model H-A Model H-D and Model H-E pistols all went to the War Department."
So I assume it was the 85th one made from the first Model E.
It was still war time and Pearl Harbor was just bombed by Japan here Dec 1941 so the gun was issued to the War department 3 months later.
It must have been issued to my uncle and used here in Hawaii during the War as far as I can determine.
My questions are..what could it be worth and Is there a collectors market for this kind of gun?
It has a few scratches, some surface scars and very light surface rust but is in very excellent working condition. It is in good condition being about 73 or so yrs. old
I also have 4 mags in good shape along with this gun.
I would eventually like to sell it to someone who can appreciate this gun more than I.
Please help with any info about it's worth .
In Gratitude,
Aloha from Hawaii
