Need help from Canadian members

I am looking at some studies analyzing the effect of firearms control on suicide and I need to understand exactly what kind of restrictions the 1977 C-51 law placed on firearms (including any specific restrictions on handguns).

Also which of these restrictions have been changed by the recent law requiring registration (C-68 I think)?
