My M1 Carbine IS not working Properly any more . Ok here is what is happing . After I fire my first round I will squeeze my Triger and nothing happens So I replaced The firing pin And Now every other round it fires butt I have to manualy eject the Fired round this goes on 15 times in a 30 round magazing And Some times I have Feeding problems
when the round Only gets feed Half way in the chamber .

My M1 Carbine Is A IBM and It has a M2 Bolt .
* replaced Firing pin (New GI)
* Checked Mags (OK)
* Firearm Is Clean and Oiled

DO I have a GAS Piston Problem OR Maby a bolt Problem?

Rob

Sounds like a gas piston problem. I had a similar problem with a Mini-14 I had, and after tightening up the screws on the gas system plus adding some blue locktite, I no longer had the slightest problem.

It does sound like a gas problem. Get a carbine piston nut wrench and remove the piston and nut assembly. clean the nut and piston, and CAREFULLY use a pin or DULL drill, BY HAND, to clean the carbon out of the gas port into the bore. Reassemble the piston and nut, WITHOUT oil, and restake the nut at one of the staking marks on the barrel. Don't use lock-tite on the M-1 Carbine, and don't scratch the piston.

I suspect a good cleaning of the entire bolt/receiver/trigger group/gas assemble couldn't hurt.

For more about this procedure, buy an M-1 Carbine GI manual.

99% certainty its in the gas piston. Check it like Dfariswheel says and it it still does it check for binding in the op rod or maybe the bolt not fully closing, but bolt closing should not have anything to do with the failure to eject.

First of all, check the ammo. Is the primer of a misfire showing a good solid indent? If so, then the ammo may be bad.

If the ammo checks out, and when the carbine fails to fire, have you checked to see if the hammer is "following down" with the bolt? That could indicate a problem with the sear or hammer. Also the recoil spring may be weak and not closing the bolt fully. In both cases, the hammer won't fall after the misfire because it is already down, but the primer mark will be light or non-existent.

While you may have problems with the gas piston, what you describe doesn't sound like a gas problem, at least not completely. The gas piston doesn't come into play at all firing the round, it only affects ejecting the spent brass and feeding the next round. If you're getting bad firing pin strikes, you have bolt or magazine problems as a rule. The other problem you may have is a weak recoil spring.

Thanks for the Info every one . I Think I am Going to do a mild rebuild Since this rifle Has been around for a while.
I am Going to replace a Bunch of stuff I was wondering if I can swap a Complete Bolt on a m1 Carbine With out checking the head space ?

Rob

No, you shouldn't switch bolts with out a head space check.
Theres enough varition in bolts that they really should be checked.
