NEED HELP finding revolver model

Hello,

What would the info (date/model) concerning a S&W-like revolver with s/n 1108XX be? (no letter in front of the s/n)

The s/n is engraved on the bottom side of the handle

Unfortunately it has NO other stamps/marks etc.
This is what leads me to the idea that it could be a "clone" manufactured under license (like the ones produced in Spain or France)

From photos I have seen sent to me by the collector it is identical to the pre WWI M&P model. (maybe a 2nd change mod. 1905?)

@Skans I do not have it in my hands. I wil ask photos without the grips. If there is any engraving I will upload them.

@JimWatson So,you think it is an original S&W K-frame 1905 mod 2? Is it .38spl according to the s/n?

It sure looks like a Smith to me.
You could pull the sideplate and look inside.
That version has the patent number on the rebound slide.
A Spanish copy will often have funny action in a Smith exterior.

It IS a Smith!

I saw a closeup pic (taken in an angle to avoid reflection) and there actually is what remains of the original logo which was buffed off as you said.

Any idea of the caliber?
Does it have anything to do with the model/year/serial?
Can I find it engraved somewhere under the grips/plate?
 
It might be a 1905 4th change .32-20, they were in a separate serial number series.

This gun has been poorly refinished with markings thin or gone. It has little if any collector value. I hope the price is low.
