Need help choosing pocket holster for "j" frame 38 and Kahr P9?

I'm asking for everyone's opinion regarding the preferred avaliable pocket holsters for carry in both jeans and pleated dockers.

I carry a J-frame-a 442- in an Uncle Mikes pocket holster, a lot. I prefer a 1911 but, frequently, business dictates Dockers and no jacket- seminars, etc. I've done business presentations in front of several dozen people many times- if anyone made me they had the manners to not mention it.

Hello. I tried both the P9 and the J-frame airweight. Sold the P9 as mine was not reliable in that it prematurely locked open.....repeatedly. The 5-shot's never failed. Best.

my $.02 worth. i have owned most of the pocket holsters out there on the market. i would advise you to buy a GOOD one. all leather stitched with premium synthetic cord. horsehide is good but not essential.
in order of my preference and unfortunately price
1. Kramer horsehide pocket holster. sewn with a stiff plastic panel worn to the outside so that the imprint of the gun does not show.
2. Alessi
3. Don Hume

down side for me on 2 and 3 was that Allesi and Don Hume would not agree that thier holsters (made for the MK9) would fit an MK40. even though i thought and still think they would have. also i have been sufficently advertised to and still believe that horsehide may have a slight edge in durability. (.do not expect the boning on horsehide as crisp though.)

i now carry an MK 40 with night sights in a Kramer horsehide pocket holster in my strongside back pocket every day. in my front side pocket i carry a horsehide pocket sleeve containing a full size K40 magazine. clipped on my other front pocket is a Gerber E-Z Out knife. i also have a Blade-Tech vertical flashlight carrier that holds a Scorpion light parallel to my belt just behind the point of my weakside hip. i have found this to be the most comfortable and trouble free carry method i have ever used and i have been carrying a handgun and/or knife concealed for over a decade now and i have a rather large box of discard and less than favorite holsters in my safe.

P.S. Be prepared to pay for quaility Kramer is not cheap but he is one of the best. If you can not afford him look hard at Don Hume.

I have a like new Kramer right hand horsehide pocket holster available, $50 shipped in continental us...fits 2" 5 shot J frame & clones...

My old Mdl. 60 has been in a Milt Sparks pocket holster for years, and i have never been made with it. A good friend of mine carries his Mdl. 36 in a Kramer holster and loves it.

Galco pocket holsters(I have one for a Smith 640 and one for a Glock 26) work well for me especially in chinos. they seem to be available at most well stocked gun stores.

My 442 lives in a Kramer pocket holster. Kramer is expensive but after you buy a couple of cheap, poorly designed pocket holsters you will end up either getting rid of the J frame or buying a Kramer.

Wild Bills concealment leather. He makes darn good stuff at a little better cost than the big names, and it works just as well. I use a pocket holster for my J frame, it is smooth inside and rough on the outside, helping keep the holster in the pants when it is drawn. I believe he also makes a small leather piece that is attachable to the holster to break up the outline.
I have worn it many times and been asked where is my gun, in a variety of pants except Levis. They are cut too tight and too high for a smooth draw (this could be me also). But in dress pants, dungerees, uniform pants, BDUs, not a problem.
Bill's selling point to me was a good one. I asked him if he had a J frame redgun, as he keeps a variety of pistol molds so folks can "try" on a holster. He simply pulled a J frame redgun out of his pocket, very quietly and quickly. Sold.

Another vote for Kramer. I have carried a 442 in my front pocket everyday in a Kramer for five years. The holster is just starting to show wear. It will probably go at least another eight - ten years.

Make your own.

I made one out of a milk jug some staples and duct tape. it looks, well...less than beautiful. Only cost me about $.05 and works great. It totally breaks up the outline of the gun, holds it upright in my pocket and the gun slips out easily when I draw. It's waterproof too!

All you have to do is cut up the milk jug for a large enough piece of flat plastic, fold it and staple then duct tape over the staples for security and to keep the staples from puncturing you. I then fleshed it out with some shaping filler pieces so it looks nothing like a gun in my pocket. Only took about 15 min too. Talk about custom work!!

Hello - I also have a s&w model 36 --- do you have a photo of your milk carton holster? Thanks!

Simply Rugged pocket protector

simplyrugged.com;

not sure about jeans, though - I don't even try to carry in jeans pocket.

I carry a S&W M38 in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster without any complaints. I'm sure it wont last as long as a leather built holster but the price was right and works fine.

Another vote for...

...Milt Sparks pocket holster. I use it for my SW 642 daily. Unfortunately, it takes a while to get them, usually.
