Need gunsmith 1911 help

So a while back i bought a ATI fx gi 1911 commander sized. In short i love this gun, i have around a 1,000 rounds through it, with the only two hiccups in the first mag. Anyway, at my last shooting excursion, the front sight somehow came off, it was not a dovetail, but rather seemed to be a small slot running parallel to the bore. So instead of doing the warrenty work, i deciede to have a set of Wilson Combat low pro sights installed. The only problem is no local smiths are set up to do machine work. Does anyone know of any smaller shops in the Northern Lousiana area? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Had a FO Novak front sight disintegrate on me and I contacted Novak. They replaced the sights, front and rear no charge---standard sights this time.

All they needed was the slide. Slide came back with sights properly zeroed.

Their dovetails are different. The rear, especially is very large. I think the front is different, too. They make good sights, but you'll be stuck with Novak's from now on.

From what I know, they now offer 1911 pistol services.

I'm aware of a few .45acp wizards but none located in the Sportsmans Paradise.
 
Clark's is in Louisana, I don't recall their address right now.
Most any machine shop should be able to do the mill cuts for you.
If you do have to send it out of state all that should be needed by the smith doing the machine work is the sights and the slide.
Those parts can be shipped regular ground or mailed so shipping should not be that expensive.

Appreciate it, i had already thought about Clarks, but i usually prefer to do business with a smaller shop. I might just have to go ahead and send it to clarks.
 
Clarks gunsmiths....

I was going to bring up Clark after checking the American Pistolsmiths Guild website. I've never used the shop but I've heard many + remarks about Clark over the years.
