hey guys, i have got a 629 44 mag. with a 5" barrel. i want to get a good holster that i can use when i go deer hunting. does anybody have any suggestions? thanks.

Nathan,
For belt holster, I chose a Kramer Vertical Scabbard holster for my S&W M629 Classic with 5" barrel. Fits well and holds pistol securely. For shoulder holster, I designed and made my own holster which holds pistol vertical. It is more comfortable and doesn't interfere with sitting down. Check out Lou Alessi's shoulder rigs on Lightning Arms website or call Lou for details. Really nice guy and his work is absolutely superb!

Good shooting and be safe.

Nobody but nobody makes a better holster than Luigi but

If you want specific suggestions tell us a little more about how you dress for deer hunting.

In particular, day pack? Camelbak? Going to be packing out your deer? Warm weather dress? Extreme cold weather dress? Flat or steep terrain? Lots of difference between say Kettle Moraine country in Wisconsin and the front range west of Denver and the Texas Hill Country at different times of year (some surprising similarities too).

For a general purpose rig I'd go with a flap or half-flap on a cross-draw worn on the pack's waist belt or something on the pack harness but then again you may want something that stays with you when you drop the harness or maybe you are still hunting in soft fabric shorts with no harness or hard fabric at all - in that case I might go with an Uncle Mike's or something soft for bucking brush with less noise - it all depends.
