Need Enfield help Please

Need some help on this rifle,..dont know much about the Enfield but would like to collect a few.

On the wrist band behind the trigger it reads;

MA
Lithgow
S.M.L.E.
III *
1941

On the stock it reads

MA
Lithgow
III* HV
1942

The bore is clean and has good rifling groves.
The wood is exceptionaly good with few gouges or dents.
Stock # matches the reciever #.....bolt #dont match.
Very clean rifle with virtualy no surface rust.

Price is $120 and would look good next to my Gibbs #7 jungle carbine.

Any comments and help would be appreciated.

Basic British rifle of WWI and used to some extent in WWII. Over 2,000,000 made by Enfield. B.S.A. made over one million during the same period.

Note: Savage also made a rifle for the .303 British cartridge however, the Brits called it the .301 Savage to distinguish it between the .303 British round.

Lithgow is Australian. they continued to produce the No.I Mk. III* after most of the British arsenal had switched to the newer version, the #4.
