Need deciding on new Pistol...

Hello... I'm looking to buy a new pistol & need suggestions on what to choose, based on my requirments. Something in at least 9mm, easy to handle, hi-cap mag availability, a pistol that is easy for anyone to shoot, basically something that doesnt need tons of range practice to become proficient with. I'm more of a Rifle shooter than Pistol, but I always like to have a backup with me & I would never get enough practice with a pistol to stay proficient, which is why I'm looking for an easy to shoot type. I hear glocks have nice pointability... but the grip just feels too large in my hands.

I have been thinking of going the cheap route... a Ruger P95 in stainless. May not be flashy, but from what I've been told, it is tough as nails & will take +P+ ammo without fear of a KB. How easy would it be to shoot though? All I would care about in accuracy is being able to hit a man sized or larger target center of mass at 50-75 yards max.

I currently own a Beretta E2 9mm, which is VERY accurate if I practice... but if I dont, my accuracy falls apart. Which is pretty discouraging for me.

Any of the following would be a great place to start:

- Remanufacturered Glock 17, with two high caps.
- Ruger P-95 (or P-97!)
- CZ-75.

I've had all three and liked all three, and have shot the P-97.

I prefer the CZ-75 over the other two. But, I sold the CZ-75, got a CZ-85 Combat (a little more pricey) and have never looked back.

Your asking alot from a out of the box handgun wanting 50-75 yards COM accuracy. Although having not shot at those distances I would highly recommend the CZ75B based on your other criteria.

Both the 9mm and 40 S&W CZ's I own will hold 10 round shots to within 3.5" at 25 yards (off hand and controlled shooting) if I do my part right. If I shot from a bench or some other form of rest (I rarely do) I'm sure it would do better and would probly easily hit COM out to 75 yards.

Glock or Ruger depending on if you want factory high-cap easily or not. A plus for the Ruger is that since you are a rifleman, if you ever get the PC9, you can interchange mags.

Cheap route: Ruger P95 or CZ 75.
More expensive route: Sig 226, 229 or 225. Glock 17 or 19.

Just in case you ever have to sell, the Glocks and Sigs will hold their value better than a Ruger or CZ.

Sling Shot

This topic bugged me a bit so I tried this out Sunday morning:

Range 50 yards.
All shooting done off hand, w/2 hand grip.
Targets-4 paper plates arranged thus:
00
00
(sorry, the best I could do)
1.) Browning Hi Power-0 for 5 :(
2.) CZ 75B-2 for 5 :(
* ammo was 115 gr Winchester Q load.
3.) Smith and Wesson model 19, .357 mag. 3 for 5 fired S/A.
4.) The same S&W fired D/A, 5 for 5.
*Ammo was 125 gr Federal .357 mag.

**Discliamer. This is in no way a scientific or even semi controlled situation. It was just something I wondered about. FWIW, I shoot quite a bit at 50 yards w/.22 and .45acp, and find it quite easy to hit an 8x11 sheet of paper at that range. For some reason though, the 9mm in my hands is not something I want for extended ranges like that. YMMV. The seemingly wierd part of doing better D/A than S/A w/the Smith is no mystery. I don't shoot the 19 S/A at all, and honestly, this was the first time in close to 20 years I've done so. It felt *very odd* to shoot it that way.

I hate to be discouraging, but IMHO, the big Berettas are some of the easiest pistols to shoot well. I don't think you'll find another hi-cap 9mm pistol that will give you better results for the same amount of practice.

The Ruger P95 would be easier to tote around, but probably harder to shoot.

Rae:

At 50 yards, use roll-over prone. I was able to group 18 shoots in about 12 in group from 50 yards, using my full-size Kimber.

M1911

Didn't have an paper plates handy, but I DID have a 1' x 1' steel plate to ping at 50 yards with my Glock 19.

I think that 29 out of 30 isn't too bad.

And yes, you CAN get 15-round mags for it, but they aren't cheap anymore. To say that I would recommend that gun would be an understatement. I carry it daily, so that ought to be more than enough of an endorsement.

And I work for a gun shop, so I could pretty much get any pistol I want.

Check out the baby eagle and the FEG HP clone. I paid $200 for the FEG and is a great shooter. Hard to beat the price and quality. A natural pointer and feels good in everyones hand.

you want a Sig 228. 9mm is cheap, easy to shoot. the 228 is extremely accurate and effective to 50 yards i am told, have not shot it that far, and points better, is easier to use than a glock or 1911, IMO.
slide release, and decocker you can reach with your right thumb, does not require use of left hand. Local gun shop has ruger p89 i think, in 9 mm. has 234,000 rounds through it since they started counting a few years ago. Previous shop owner had been using it before that.thats about all from the peanut section.

Use your head, don't believe everything you hear, and never come out on the bottom.

First handgun? Glock 19, end of story. It's reliable, light in weight, holds more rounds and has more hi-cap mag options than any other gun, is super-comfortable to shoot, mid-priced, won't rust, won't break as easily as other guns, and is cheap and easy to fix if something does break.

Let's just hope we don't get Gore'd in November.
I don't know about everyone else, but I'd much
rather get some Bush.

Sig 228 expensive good gun I have one.
CZ 75 compact Model PCR. cheaper good gun I have one too. Both are accruate and extremely trustworthy. I bought the PCR as a fun back up to the Sig. I shoot the PCR more now.
