I have an opportunity to buy a a Davis .380 or Hipoint .40 cal... Here's the Email...

the .380 fires great, its nice and clean, its small so its what i ususally pack around. the .40 cal fires, and has very little recoil, but the ejection pin is worn, so it needs to be replaced...Hipoint does garentee their firearms for life, so its just a matter of sending it in for repairs. shouldnt cost anything but shipping...the only reason i havnt done it is on the day i found out about the ejection pin, i was so bummed i bought a .40 cal s&w sigma (not for trade)

I have not heard good things about Davis, and i don't know anything about Hipoint. Any and all info will be stellar!!!!

(The item I have for trade is worth roughly $250-$350)

Well, a brand new Hi-Point is $200 TOPS, more like $150 or less. I'd say a used and essentially broken one is worth about $50, if your lucky. I wouldn't bother buying and then trying to fix a $50 gun when a brand new one is $150.

I think the Davis may have been around $100 brand new so I'd say MAYBE $50 also.

If I had no other choices I'd buy a brand new Hi-Point before either of those two.

BTW, you can get a brand new Taurus or S&W .40 or 9mm for about $350, if I was in a crunch and could scrape up $350 or so, I'd probably go that route, or a used Glock. Anyway, there are much better options. Heck, WildAlaska has a Ruger LCP brand new for $299

I'd give maybe $75 a piece if I felt the need to deal with the bottom rung of handguns. As it is, I wouldn't recommend either; if you want a cheap gun then buy a good name used IMO.

I wouldnt buy either. As I have said before you get what you pay for. Those guns are junk in my book. Dont get into a hurry to buy. If you have to save a bit longer it will be worth it in the long run.

I have owned a Davis, which I bought for $50 to see if they really were junk. Yep, it was junk. So I sold it for $50 and called it a day. I recently bought a Hi-point just to see what all the fuss is about, I paid right around $100 for it NIB. I figuered a $100 is worth it because either if it turns out to be a decent shooter I now have a $100 decent gun (as ugly as it is). On the other hand if it turns out to be junk I can at least chime in on the Hi-point bashing threads and speak from experiance. I havent had a chance to shoot it yet, but will make a thread once I find the time to take it out.

While I disagree with all the junk comments, I do agree neither gun is worth your trade, and even both together aren't worth it.
you would be getting the short end of the stick on this one.

Hipoints go bang just like anyother. They are ugly and bulky for what they are.

Davis, well, alright, here I have to agree junk just like everyone else.

You could easily buy a new highpoint for around 125, if that is all you have to spend. I have heard they are quite good on the lifetime warranty. It will probably run you close to 30 bucks to ship it back though.

just thought I'd chime in with some possibly relevant info.

I am not sure how hi-point does their warranty shipping, (if you pay just to factory or both ways). I had to ship a handgun recently and it will probably cost you $50-60 in the current market to overnight a gun one way (mine was $56 with insurance). It's to the point where most small repairs are cheaper to pay a local gunsmith than pay for the shipping for free work. Just something to keep in mind.

Shipping both was can exceed $100, depending on what they require, insurance, ect. This is an all around bad deal. What ever you have to trade is worth more than both of those combined, and I dont even know what you have. Unless you have a davis and a high point and both of them are broken....

Just sell the Wii and it's accessories, and do it while it's still popular. Take the money and direct it toward your next handgun.

Honestly ?.... I wouldn't buy either one. I would save up any buy a slightly bettr gun as som of the stated examples above. eg Ruger LCP.

|You'll likely buy a piece of junk that will last..oh I don't kno...maybe a few weeks or months (?) and then regret buying it.

It's rather like any purchase - you get what you pay for. get a cheapo item from Wally world or a slightly better item (at more cost) from Sears...I think you get what I mean
