okay so i posted a thread a few days ago about using a 300 win mag for antelope, http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256229
well it turns out that i good family friend is gonna let me use his sako 25-06, but we have no idea what load to use, and the hunt is less than a month away, and since i know we have lots of experts here, i thought i would pick ya'lls brains a little bit

thanks so much!!!

OK.
"Best" bullets for game IMHO (bullet construction and general availability)-
Nosler Partitions.
Swift A-Frame or Scirocco
Hornady Interbond

For 25-06, bullets in the 115-120 gr range will work best.
Hornady Interbond and Swift Scirocco are very high BC bullets, best for long-range shooting. Swift A-Frame and Nosler Partitions are not as aerodynamic, but are tougher for animals like elk.

I would recommend the Nosler Partitions or Swift A-Frames in a 25-06 for what you have said is your hunting trip plans.

This is my friend Rick and his Ruger 25-06. The buck dropped where he stood when Rick fired from about 275 yards or so. 117 grain Sierra Pro Hunter is super accurate, affordable, and hits hard!

Good hunting to you.

I have shot several using a 115 gr ballistic tip.It works for me.I use a .257 Ackley.
Some would say the ballistic tip is a little lightly constucted. It works superbly for me.The 110 Accubond is tougher, and both have a BC around .43 or .44
Some custom 25-06 rifles have 1-12 or 1-14 twist for light bullets. Most are 1-10 and will stabilize 115and 120 bullets.
The 115's and 120's reach out much better than 100's.
Actually,I think any of the 115-120 gr bullets will work for you.
You will not be wrong to use H-4831SC

About 2 editions back the Nosler loading manual describe how to use a duplex reticle for range estimation, similar to how the mil-dot reticle is used.
Some range estimation aid is very helpful in wide open spaces.
