Need advise on Emerson/ Blackhawk MOD/ MercWorxs knives

I am in a police academy and I currently only have a Spyderco Delicia and I want a slightly bigger knife. Plus it has an OD green handle and I don't want to use it on the street. I handled the Emerson CQC-13 and the Commander. I liked the ergonomics and I really liked the wave feature, but the liner lock seemed weak. Also there was alot of blade waddle/give when locked. Maybe the screw was loose or something.

I also handled the Blackhawk Mark 1 and a 685 I believe. The lockup seemed very solid and the ergos were also very comfortable. The blade did not move at all when locked open and the handle seemed very well crafted. The Mark 1 handle was a little big, but gave very good purchase. I really liked the MODs and after the academy I can get the automatic folders (if I can wait that long).

I have no experience with MercWorxs and the are a little pricy and probably my last choice of the three. But they look really well made and I'd like opinions of the company as I might get a fixed blade from them in the future.

I am looking several knives from each manufacturer and have pretty much narrowed it down to these three brands for now.

Just my opinion-
The UTCOM CQC 11 or Commander would be a good duty knife.
The Mark I or Mark II look sturdy enough for a regular duty knife.
 
I had an Emerson CQC7 for well over a decade till I lost it. It got used not super hard, but a lot.

I wish I had it back. I carry a ProTech Auto now.

Ernie's a real stand up guy. You have a question, problem, issue, call him.

Blackhawk MOD is nice....a great big nice corporation.

Although not on your list, Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT) has some nice models at reasonable prices. Also, there is nothing wrong with more than one knife.

A Senior Border Patrol Agent taught me to carry my knife in my shirt pocket. Its less likely to fall or be plucked out and just as accessable. Still do.

Remember that you are much more likely to lose, mislay or loan a knife than to wear it out.

I think I have a new benchmade CQC7 that I stashed years ago. They came in two sizes and I may have both. Let me know if you are interested-for you-$700.00. I have carried the benchmade model for over 10 years now. Have switched a couple of times but always come back to it. The price may be negotiable (it comes with a seecamp).

Whats this you say about a Seecamp. PM me a price, caliber and accessories included if you are really wanting to sell it.

Stop you don't need to look at anything else, don't bother because you won't find a better knife for the money or company that stands behind there products. I've had CQC-7 for about 5 years and of the those 5 Years it hasn't left my side accept going into a courthouse once.:D
