Need advice...summer carry Walther PPQ

My Dr. recently told me that my firearm was causing pressure on a already damaged nerve. He told me to stop carrying behind my left hip (yes I am LH'ed). Thing is, the PPQ is 32oz with 15 rds. 147gr Federal HST HP. It kinda heavy, but the weight doesn't bother me as I am 6'1" 220lbs with a Dunlap around my waist (a low profile one :) ). Anyway, I love the PPQ and don't want to stop carrying it. I've searched the major holster manufacturers and needless to say, there are just too many.

I am leaning towards a single clip holster, preferably in leather or horse, worn either AIWB or SOB. If I go SOB I would need a RH holster, so I think I'll end up AIWB.

Anyone have suggestions? No budget concerns, rather have a great leather carry holster and no back pain. TIA.

This was my carry holster:

If your back hurts I wouldn't suggest a single point holster. They tend to hurt more than one that distributes the weight.

I've been very happy with an Off the Grid Concepts IWB holster I bought for my Glock 42... So much so that I ordered another one for my recently purchased PPS. They make holsters for the PPQ as well, and ship within a few weeks. It is built for Appendix, but could be carried in other areas. They are probably my second favorite holster, after an RCS Vanguard 2 (not made for Walther). It is very easy to put on, and the retention is great. They offer an option to adjust it, but in my experience it isn't needed.

I'll also add that I prefer dual loops for anywhere other than Appendix, but up front the smaller the holster, the more comfortable it is to carry. I like the minimalist style holsters for that style of carry, as I have found some of my other holsters become uncomfortable when I sit for extend periods of time. That ruled out any leather AIWB holsters for me.

carring PPQ

Carrying a PPQ with their smooth, smooth trigger is great. I have one and on a couple of times at the range the trigger went off on me before I was ready. I should have been more careful and carrying it for Me would take more care with it. Love the accuracy and feel of the gun. I purchased the first one I saw on a shelf of a gun store. Now I see the price drop at gun shows about $50.00 from the $599.00 + tax I paid. After I pulled the trigger of a PPQ at a gun show I just had to have one.

Please don't carry so that you have a block of steel mounted right against your spine.

A fall on your back and you will possibly be living with much higher levels of nerve damage.

Maybe some form of cross-draw, so the gun is carried on your right hip. Your nerve problem is with the left hip, I think, so if you haven't the draw-blocking belly size that, ahem, some of us do, you can use a cross draw.

You could size downgrade to an LC9s for a while and ankle carry that baby. You may just need to give your hip a few months of relief.

Can you explain what you mean by the text above in bold? Do you mean the gun fired without you pulling the trigger, i.e. by itself? Or do you mean it went off before you expected it to when pulling the trigger? Thanks.

PPQ

I guess I should have been clearer. What I meant the trigger is so smooth and easy, the recoil must have jolted my finger enough to pull it again and fire another shot accidentally. The reset is so short also that I fired off another shot when I didn't mean to. Not that I take my finger off the trigger after every shot but I have to be more careful with it than other pistols I have. It still has the factory sights and they are right on when the 3 dots line up.

Tex and joe, yes, I agree the trigger is very smooth and somewhat light, but seems about the same force as a VP9. I love my PPQ and bought it because the VP9 kept biting my trigger finger for some reason. But I never had a surprise discharge like you describe joe. The problem will probably disappear as you get used to the relatively short reset. I was worried you were going to say it discharged before your finger went into the trigger area. Thanks for the further description.

I've got an IWB N82 Professional Tactical holster for my PPQ. Its single clip and I carry about 4 o'clock right hand. I sometimes forget I have the gun on. I know some guys have complained about the twist release, but I have no problems with it. It's small light and comfortable. Don't know if this would help in your situation, but worth a look. https://www.n82tactical.com/products/holsters/

I also agree about the trigger..............best trigger on a stock handgun there is. I actually had a professional trigger job done on my CZ75B that still doesn't meet the PPQ stock trigger.
