Iam going to get one fairly soon , and i saw one in Black
Stainless steel for around $540 . I was just wondering is their
any advantage in those vs the Regular Finish ? Thanks

I have never seen black stainless steel (?) Maybe it exists, I just haven't seen it. Is it possible this is a black chrome? I would recommend regular stainless since it doesn't show dings and scratches. Also, you can polish out any scratches and restore the finish pretty well. If you have a black gun, every scratch looks silver and shows badly. If the gun is SS, you won't be able to touch it up with gun blue liquid because SS won't blue. That said: my 92FS is the standard black finish that they call Bruniton and it has held up quite well over time.

Beretta made a version of the 92 with a blackened stainless slide and barrel called Cajun, this may be one of those. It is said that all the stainless (Inox) guns are about 30% stronger than the standard steel and the stainless barrels are not chrome lined like the standard barrels. Virtually all the frames are alloy irregardless of weather they are Bruniton black or matte gray finish.

If you are going to carry in a holster get the stainless...if not go the other.....holster tends to rub the finish off...

They cost more.:p :D

$540 sounds high.

I have seen EIIs for $610.00 and FS's for $480.00.

FWIW - EIIs are very nice. I have an EII and a 92 Compact. The EII with the "G" mechanism is the way to go. The other refinements are a substantial improvement as well.

I have seen the blackened stainless Berettas at gun shows in Houston for about $500. However, if you are looking for a new Beretta, don't overlook the Vertec. Bruniton is available now; Inox will be available later this year.

Also, don't overlook the 96 series. I have a 96 Brigadier, and am more than happy.

Never heard that the SS versions were 30% stronger though. Where did you hear that? I was told that my gun came in Double Action Only if it were inox, or I would have gotten one in that finish....

Any Beretta will serve you well, just get one that fits your hand good. Remember the Vertec...

I have the 92 Vertec and a 96 FS. Both are great guns. I paid $500 for the 96FS and $550 for the Vertec at a local shop near Indy. The only down side with the Vertec is that you will have to send it off to get a holster made for it. Mine will be going to Milt Sparks in the near future.
