I just had to come here and share this with you all, I think
it will bring a huge smile to your face as it did mine.
I just dropped my daughter off at Kindergarten. We approach the school
and there is a police car in the drop off center with his
lights on. I'm getting nervous thinking something bad happened
in the morning. I see a lady get out of the car and of course
I think the worse. My daughter and I walk by and the lady
turns out to be one of the teachers there. She asks my girl
if she wants to sit in back of the police car. My daughter,
with a terrified look on her face, says "No, I don't want
to go to jail." LOL The officer, the teacher and myself all
start cracking up. The teacher explained that the officer
is there to let the kids sit in his car and check out the
police stuff in the car. My daughter decides to wait for her
new friend before going inside the car.
Finally her friend and her Mom arrive. They sit in the car
together for a few minutes. The Officer is now talking to
the kids , answering questions, showing them his badge and
bullet proof vest. My daughter notices the gun. She says
"Mommy he has a gun, don't tell Daddy he will freak out!"
I tell her it is ok, Police Officers carry guns with
them all the time in case they need it for a bad guy. The
Officer heard all of this and says to my daughter "Do you
know what to do if you find a gun?" My daughter automatically
says "Stop! Don't touch the gun and get a grown up so they
can get the bullets out." LOL The Officer was very impressed
with her knowledge and said "I can see someone has taken
the time to teach you about firearms. Thats great thinking
keep up the good work." (Thankfully he didn't ask about the
daddy part ) Then my daughter smiled and said "Ya Mommy
goes to a safe place and shoots guns. But she likes those
big ones." I was like OMG I don't believe she just
said that in front of all these kids and Moms LOL. The Officer
was LHAO and just kinda smiled at me. I take it he is a pro-gun
Officer, but I still felt like two cents.
I was soooo proud of her! Everything I taught her did sink
in...well I guess the last part about the bullets we need
to work on, but she has the general idea. What a great
feeling to see your own child stand there before a bunch
of kids, teachers and a few Moms and let everyone know she
knows about gun safety. It was such a cool feeling, I don't
think I could have been any prouder of her.
So that incident lead to a conversation between me and her
little friends Mom. She was talking about how some guy came
to the door late at night one time and she felt helpless
because her husband wasn't home and she was afraid this guy
was going to break in. I am almost positive she was just
about to say she either owned a gun or wanted to own one
but unfortunately the bell rang and she had to let the teacher
know her daughter was coming home with me today. So we never
did finish that conversation. I kept thinking that I should
still stay low key (although my daughter pretty much blurted
it out lol) and just let her bring the topic up. So maybe
one day I will find out. That would be really cool if she
does in fact own one, or is interested in getting one. Maybe
I might have found someone to shoot with. But I am not getting
my hopes up too high. I'm just happy with the outcome of
this morning.
Sorry that was long, I'm just VERY happy right now and alot
of this *knowledge* my daughter has learned has alot to
do with many of you TFLr's here. Thanks!
