I got a cheap nylon thing thats slow to adjust so pretty much only good to carry rifle and not very confy to wear. I want a quick adjust sling so i can use it as a shooting aid (and learn to use) and also something confortable to carry around.
check out the Montana Sling from Cabelas. Well worth the money. I guess it also depends on what type of firearm you intend on using the sling for, in which case, the Montana sling may not work for you
Im looking for versaility i need it to be able to be used with a hunting rifle but i need to be able to shoot with my .22 also since you know im broke and all.
I've played around with a lot of different slings before settling on the Viking Tactics VTAC sling as my favorite. It's a simple 2-point sling, but it's got the ability to make a quick adjustment for carry, support, etc. I keep two of them on QD swivels, one for my AR and another for the sling studs on my shotgun, rimfire, hunting rifle, etc. And if you wanted more comfort they've got a nice padded one as well. Give it a look for yourself.
G.I. cotton web sling. Midway has them in black and green for around 15 bucks. The cotton carries well and the sling can be used in loop as well as hasty. I would not reccomend a padded sling of any kind if the sling is to be used as a shooting aid as the padding generally gets in the way.
Check out Zahal.com for a good selection of combat slings as used by IDF (Israel Defence Forces). I have one of their 2-pt. "Sayeret" slings on my Mini-14. This makes a good carry or hasty sling, but I frankly haven't yet figured out how to loop up with it.
I'll second the VTAC slings. Simple, light, durable, and the quickest adjustable sling I have ever used. I have three of them, with a little looking you can find them for around $25.
I have several of the quake claw slings like the last poster mentioned and they work real well. Especially on a heavy barrel rifle. The heavier barrel tends to make the gun want to slide back if your shouldering it with the muzzle up. The rubber claw sling grips real well. Another one that I really like is just the plain Browning nylon slings. There made where you can put both straps over your shoulder kind of like a back pack or just over one shoulder. They adjust quickly. Really helpful on long walks. I had one on the gun I used in Africa and it saved my shoulder made it a breeze to lug around for miles. My PH kept commenting on how much he liked it. I bought one for him and mailed it to him after I got back.
Not a sling but I have to throw this out here. My brother and I found this last summer and each bought one for the fall hunt. These are absolutely fantastic. They're expensive but worth every dime. Watch the videos! (More then one).
Does appleseed require a centerfire also? My centerfire is a 357 carbine and not much good beyond 50 yards (open sights are not the most porecise thing.) Ive got a .22 also, but it seems they want one of each? Funds are a bit tight to start going out buying up guns.
