Need a pistolsmith!

Hi, all. Here is what I have:

I own a Colt M1917 New Service that has been customized--before I got it.

As you can see, any further modifications will really not hurt the revolver. Here's my dilemma:

This gun is chambered for .45 Colt---not ACP, but .45 "Long" Colt.

I can NOT find a round that will print to point of aim. They always print WAY too low.

So, my question: Does anyone know of a pistolsmith that can do a good job of installing an adjustable rear sight? I'm thinking that if a dovetail could be cut, I could mount a good sight. What do you all think?

Handsome old job, but you are right, the ramp and front sight are too high for the hog wallow fixed rear.
The old cure was a S&W adjustable rear on whatever make of gun. I don't know anybody doing it any more except maybe some of the guys better known for working on Rugers like Hamilton Bowen, John Gallagher, Dave Clements, etc.

There are other ways. The FDL Wondersight is a bit clunky but would only require drilling and tapping one hole.

I have seen pictures of some revolvers with a fixed but taller rear sight set into the topstrap. A simple one is shown at

That thread also shows the old Micro installation, but that might be TOO tall for your ramp.

Here's another.

I'd file the front sight blade down, a bit at a time, to try achieving zero w/o additional work/etc.

Who knows ?

Although it might actually end up needing the ramp removed & replaced with a front sight blade mounted directly on/in the bbl to zero it.

Thanks for the replies! Jim, that Wondersight looks promising--and it's in my neck of the woods, too! I think I'll give them a call.
