Need a nipple

I picked up an old (1963) Replica Arms 1849 pocket last week that came with a missing nipple and a broken wrench. I have looked around the internet and all of the sources I found say it should be a 5.5mm x.9 thread but when I checked and measured one of the others I come up with 12 - 24 thread. A screw of that size fits perfectly also. My problem is I cannot find that size and a couple of emails to parts houses have gone unanswered. I do not plan to shoot it but it is in pretty decent shape otherwise and is part of a cased set so I would like for it to be complete. Anybody have any suggestions?

Could it be this:
12X28tpi, Same as for: Ruger Old Army. Thompson Seneca rifle, Colt revolvers?
I had a nipple replacement problem & discovered that "5.5mm x.9" is just the metric description of a 12X28.
 
12/28 or 5.5x.9 won't work if his gun is truly threaded at 12x24. I've never encountered a c&b revolver with coarse nipple threads. 24 tpi is the coarse standard for the #12 screw diameter; 28 tpi is the fine thread standard for that diameter and is by far more common.

Are you sure it's 12x24 and not 12x28?
 
I have come the conclusion that since the 5.5 x.9 threads are nearly identical to the 12-24 I will have to try the 5.5X.9 threads. If they don't fit then they don't fit. I measured the nipple with my trusty sawtooth thread gauge once again and it for sure is not 28 threads per inch. The 24 TPI gauge sits down into the tread perfectly the 28 TPI is not even close.

This gun is marked Replica Arms El Paso, TX so maybe the nipples came from over the border. LOL

Uh, no, 5.5x.9 are NOT close to 12x24; they're almost exactly 12x28. 24 tpi is 1.06mm pitch, not 0.9mm. You would need a 5.5x1 metric thread to come close to 12x24.
 
Since there is some confusion, take out another nipple and send it to Track of the Wolf. Ask them to send you six new nipples and a wrench.
There is a danger in putting in wrong size, or thread, nipples. They can blow out at you.
 
I misspoke in the last post. I did buy a 5.5 X.9 nipple from Trac of the Wolf to see if it would fit and it does not. Since the existing nipples measure .216" on the thread OD, and screw into the cylinder perfectly, I have to conclude there is no other nipple made, in a thread other than 12-24 or 5.5 X 1.05 (neither of which exists), that will fit. I talked with a local gunsmith who has been repairing black powder weapons for many years and he said if I brought the cylinder and nipples in he would look at it but from what I told him he thought a custom made nipple might be the only solution. I will do that when I get time someday but for now I wlll just leave the hammer in the empty recess. I have no intentions whatsoever to ever fire, or attempt to fire, the gun. It is, and will be, a safe queen.

I have been away for a few days. Thanks for your offer. I bought some "so called" baby dragoon nipples on gun auction last week and I am waiting for them. They were described as smaller than "regular" nipples and the close up photos show three turns of thread on them. When I compared that to mine it looked the same. They did not look like the fine thread nipples I own so I gambled a couple of bucks. Nothing like precision measurements. Ha Ha
