Need a new pistol, could use some suggestions!

Hey guys,

New here. So I recently bought a Performance Center Shield in 9mm for my carry gun. So I really have no need for my Ruger SR9c and I really dislike my Glock 30s (dislike the trigger and really hate the magazine bite). I have decided to sell/trade-in both of those. I am going to put the money I get for those towards my new purchase. I would like to have a 45 for home defense. My budget is around $1,500. I do love 1911's, but I am not by any means set on one. My first firearm was a Kimber Eclipse Carry, which I loved, but traded it in because I was still having major issues 700+ rounds in. My biggest dilemma is do I spend on one pistol, or do I split that money (not evenly per say) into 2 different pistols. For the ladder, I would want a 45 and 9mm. I do like full grips, I have mag extensions on all my shield mags so that is truly the only pre-req.

Please feel free to leave all your suggestions.

Thanks

Lots of good choices these days. If you like M&P check out the new M&P 2.0 45 which comes with or without safety.

My personal non 1911 favorite in .45 are the SIG P220 and HK45 but they are on the more expensive side and hammer fired. I have not tried the SIG P227 but it is SIGs 10 round version of the P220 with a grip more like the P226 that would be worth checking out. I have not tried the SIG P320 striker fired .45 but have heard a lot of good reports about it also.

As for 1911 you potentially have a healthy budget for that and the Dan Wesson 1911s are definitely worth checking out. I would like to get the Dan Wesson Valor some day.

Hopefully you have a rental range close so you can try out what you might be interested in as that is always the best way.

Good luck.

Buy once and buy right. Look at a Sig P227. If i could only keep one hand gun it would be the P227. Buy one and you will never look back.:D:cool:

With the current $100 rebate offer, it's hard to turn down a Walther PPQ M2. I couldn't and picked up my new Navy "Q" earlier today!

IMHO, the PPQ and Sphinx SDP have the best triggers in a non-1911 platform. With your budget, you can probably get both. That being said, within your budget, you can alternatively get a really good 1911.

Maybe a 1911?
The Ruger Sr1911 I shot was great..
I had a used Remington R1. Wasn't too keen on it and traded for a Sig P220 a couple years ago.. still have the Sig.
SIG also makes a lot of different 1911's
S&W makes some too. I personally love the performance center SW1911 would love to own one
Colt 1911

You could try going to a range that rents guns and try out a couple. Something one of us may like and shoot well you may not like. It would be worth the money to rent and try before you drop that much on a gun you don't absolutely positively know you like how it shoots.

Anyone have any experience with the Sig or S&W 1911's? I just had such a bad experience with my old Kimber that I would like to know what you guys think.

My vote is for one pistol. If it's 45 ACP that you want, I'd suggest the M&P, PPQ, or P320. Use any remaining funds for ammo.

For 45 home defense, take a look at the SAR K2. It's a double stack steel frame cz style pistol with adjustable sights and accesory rail. SAR (short for Sarsilmaz) is a long standing Turkish gun manufacturer with a pretty good reputation round the world.

(Edit to add) I don't have a SAR K2, but I do have a K2P which is the polymer 9mm variation. I have been very happy with it and it has been extremely reliable and as accurate as anyone could wish for. Don't let the low price scare you away...worth much more than they're selling for.

I have a SIG GSR 1911 that I have been very happy with. I read about a lot of happy owners with newer SIG 1911s and SIG has a lifetime warranty to original owner. That said IMO Dan Wesson is a step above and well worth the money and the less expensive Dan Wesson are not much more than some SIG 1911. My SIG 1911 is my only 1911 and I am not up with the state of the current mass produced 1911s as far a quality among manufacturers to comment on it much further. I had heard a lot of good things about Colt 1911s but not sure about more recent times with Colt's financial problems.

"QUOTE"

My G29 SF has a 3lb trigger--as for the mag bite put a small O ring around the bottom of the mag it will work wonders.

So if you don't want to trade there are possibilities to make the G30s pleasant to shoot.

A Sig 1911 Emperor Scorpion Carry is in my EDC rotation. 1000+ rounds and I've been extremely happy with it. I can't recall one single hiccup. Not one.

You only need one pistol, but you want many more, so don't ask for advice, just pick what you'd like for now. Then save up again for many more later on.

That's my question as well. I had a M&P 45c and the trigger was mushy and just horrible. Loved everything else about the gun.
