First, thanks to all who replied to my other recent P7 thread....

I did a little P7 shopping today, and found a factory refurbished P7M8 for $1025. This seemed to be a little high for anything that is not a 1911, but I know P7s aint cheap. Is that price about right?

In general how good are the refurbished guns. This one looked nice, but I wonder if I would be better to hold out for a new one, even though it will cost more.

I need help fast, the fever is consuming me....

Bullseye in Lawrenceville, GA...

...has several refurb P7M8's that have had the mill mark removed and the slide refinished.

Sticker is $899, I got mine from them for $850.

About two bills more than I paid for the refurb I bought in 9/00, but I was buying wholesale back then. The supply of refurbs has dried up considerably and prices have taken a corresponding rise.

Local price for a brand spanking new one with night sights is $1250-$1299.

I've owned two refurb P7's now, and handled plenty of new and rebuilt ones while I was working in shops. For my money, the refurbs are the better deal; you get the box, 2 mags, gas tube cleaning tool and all the other bits and pieces, and P7's frequently wind up getting refinished in hard chrome or other rust-inhibiting coatings anyway.

If you just gotta have a new one, feel free, but I don't think there's any real advantage save the fuzzy warm feeling of being the first owner. (Hey, I think the rebuild Glocks are a better deal than new ones, too; buying a used Glock is about as risky as buying a used brick.)

Thanks for the responses...

Are P7s available in stainless or hard chrome? HK website shows only blue guns. Maybe the white guns I have seen were refinished by a gunsmith?

$1025 for a refurb is much too high. (I paid $1050 for a new P7 in September 2000.) When HK released the refurbs about two years ago, they were usually $700 and some were less. Some common complaints about the refurbs: 1) No warranty - some dealers were saying that the guns had one; 2) some sights were loose; 3) some slides had a purplish color.

HK does not make a stainless P7, but there was a factory nickel P7. You may be able to find a used one.

$1025 does seem more than a bit high and $900 seems like a fair price for one with the mill mark removed

i was also luckey enought to get one without the mill mark, although i'm not sure it was a refurb. got it through century arms and it had a plum slide, some holster wear, a missing front sight insert and some light orange on the slide. only additional mark i could find was an etched "CAI" (century's mark)

of course it was <$700 too, so i've got no complaints...just trying to decide who to send it to for hard chrome
