Need a little help with a scope

I have a pre 1975 Herters 300 win. mag. It was manufactured in England. My son got me a Redhead (bass pro shop house brand) 3.5 x 9 scope. The original scope is a fixed power Herter's, 6 power. The new scope won't work because the front will hit the barrel using the old mounts. I've taken the gun to a couple shops and my dovetailed rail is slightly smaller than any standard gun. So Weaver, Leuopold, and a couple other brands won't fit. What should I do? I need to raise up about an 1/4"

Have you looked into Warne bases and rings? I don't know whether they would fit, just doing a little brainstorming.

You might try contacting Beowulf on the Cabela's forum. He's worked on a few Herter's rifles from what I've read over there.

I don't know but I've been told...

Just about the only company making scope mounts for the Herters dovetail is Conetrol.

You might try to contact them through their website: http://www.conetrol.com/

Hope this is useful. Some of the British Herters rifles were made by the old BSA company, so perhaps mounts sized for these would fit as well?
