Hey guys! I have about 150-200 to blow on a nice spotting scope. Heres what I will be using it on.
Range-50, 100, and 200 yards shooting .22LR .223 Remington and .308 winchester
Shooting drills in the woods
Scouting for hunting Loose woodlands (100 yards to 150 yards)
I would like the spotting scope to have
*A solid base (Or reccoment a solid base)
*Clear optics for checking groupings at 100 and 200 yards I DONT want to have to strain. AO is perferred if its alright. If I wanted to strain my 16x scope would do the job. Is 20x Enough?
*Able to soak up light in low light conditions I.E. in the woods in the shadows

Im new so any advice on what to buy is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much fellas!
Dave

Looking at your requirements (with the exception of veiwing 200 yard bullet holes), I think you might be better served with a good pair of binoculars.

FWIW - If you have to have a spotting scope:
I used to own a low priced Simmons spotting scope (under $100). It was fine at 100 yards. 200 yards not so fine. I later replaced it with a Nikon Spotter II (around $400). Big improvement, however, there is still room for greater improvement. If anything ever happens to the Nikon, I will further upgrade (around $1000).

I think in spotting scopes 100 yards or less, any spotting scope will work. Further out you get what you pay for. The power is not even close to the importance of the quality of the glass. I like looking through my Nikon on the lowest power setting (16X) because that power has the sharpest, brightest, clearest view.

Check out your local Wal-Mart or sporting goods store for a decent compact telescope. You would have NO problem counting your bullet holes at 500 yards.

Mine is similar to this one:

This one is on clearance for $65.00 at Wal-Mart:

I just recieved that Bushnell telescope today. It sucks. It's huge, bulky, flimsy, and really awkward. Sorry for such a stupid suggestion.

The Meade telescopes are very nice and compact though.

I was wondering why you suggested a telescope for looking at stars for the range : D
Mine should arrive today! I cant wait! Ill take pictures you you guys!

P.S. people at the range would think I was trying out my new rocket launcher not setting up a spotter scope XD
